.NET Framework update preventing standby

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

Since yesterday's updates, I'm unable to put my computer into standby. When

I flip the lid open again, there's a message saying 'Microsoft .NET Framework

v1.1.4322 Update' prevented it going into standby. It also says I should

disable the service. Clearly, I can do that and I imagine it would work, but

is there another solution? If not, how important is this update and what

would I lose by not having it running?

I'm using XP Home SP2 on an HP Pavilion dv5000 and would be glad to give any

other useful info.

Thanks for your help with this, if anyone knows what is going on!

Hi

Ditto. But, I haven't been able to remove the bugger! It starts to uninstall

and then never finishes. Really annoying.

I have the same problem with standby, the error message is slightly different

('Microsoft.NET Framework v1.0.3705 Update) but the outcome is the same.

Thanks, PA Bear, I've just done exactly that.

I wouldn't have expected it to be anything else but free, by the way.

Ok,

Well, that didn't prove too fruitful. I just received a stock email telling

me to come here to try and find a solution (!) or to search in the FAQs (no

luck, unsurprisingly). The other option was to call the support team, but if

someone given the time to send me a reasoned response online can only come up

with a generic email, then what chance someone over the phone knowing where

to start? Besides, this doesn't warrant an overseas call (I'm in France right

now, but there's no way I'd try and explain this in French).

Same problem here. I just sumbitted a support ticket as well. I have a

feeling this will be a problem for everyone, and many people will find their

way to this thread. Everyone needs to fill out a support ticket.

Same issue here - Dell Inspiron 9300 XP MCE, SP2. Restored and tried again

less the offending .NET package hotfix only to find the next one also caused

the same issue.

Gave up, restored and have held off installing the 3 .NET hotfixes until

issues are resolved.

I'm also getting the message saying 'Microsoft .NET Framework

v1.1.4322 Update' prevented it going into standby. It also says I

should

disable the service. My machine is a Dell Dimension 8400.

I hope Microsoft gets a patch out for this soon...

EVERYONE that finds their way here needs to fill out a support ticket and

hound the hell out of Microsoft. Every year they put out a hotfix update

that's messed up.

I submitted my ticket. BUT ---- given that it is Microsoft, I have low

expectations they can fix this.

Typical Microsoft hack-ery.

For all of those with Dell systems that will not go into standby ...

would you please check the Network Connections in the Control Panel and

see if there is now a 1394 Connection present that was not present prior

to the update being installed ?

I could be barking up the wrong tree but it wouldn't be the first

time <w>

Thanks.

I have a Dell and have always had a 1394 connection.

Also, there has been instructions posted on how to reinstall this .NET P.O.S.

I did it and kept getting error code 1395 I believe it was and finally got

that resolved so I could reinstall this .NET crapola, reading that a new

security update had been put out, ONLY to find it still won't go into

standby. What is this .NET Framework and do I even need it? If not, I"M

DONE WITH THIS BS!!!

Oh lord, this is getting laughable now.

Got a resopnes from the technical support. Guess what, they did not even

read my freakin email apparantly. Didn't even consider what our problem is.

She gave the instrucions on how to reinstall all the .NET stuff. I.VE DONE

THAT NOW 15 TIMES, and when I go for the security update 928366, my machine

STILL won't go into stanby or hibernate. God %#!*, just fix the frickin

problem, how hard could it

be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call 'em on the phone, have your Incident Number handy, and tell them that

the email response wasn't appropriate.

Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from

Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no-charge for

support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call,

clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the

update's KB number (e.g., KB931678).

In other countries, see

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=securityhome > "No-Charge

Support...for virus and other security-related" issues in right-hand menu

for localized contact information.

For more information about how to contact Microsoft for support issues,

I'm so glad to find out that I'm not the only one having this problem. I

don't have a clue how to disable this program, and would like to remove the

entire update IF it wouldn't harm my computer.

Any suggestions?

I know this is no fix but if you want to go into standby while we wait

for the geniuses at Microsoft to fix this hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and end the

netfixupdate.exe and then you will go into standby. But Its probably

better to shut down until this gets fixed.

OK guys, I got mine to work. The person helping me via microsoft support is

still not addressing the actual issue of the standby problem, but I simply

followed her instruction and it worked. I think the culprit is using windows

update to get the KB928366 security update. Her instructions gave an actual

manual download for it, and that is the differece for me. Here they are:

ALSO, BEFORE YOU START, DISABLE ALL ANTIVIRUS, ANTISPYWARE, ANTI WHATEVER

SOFTWARE, HIPS, SOFTWARE FIREWALLS (short of the windows firewall) etc.

1) Either use the add/remove function in the control panel to rid yourself

of all .NET stuff, or use the installer cleanup utility

http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D5E1BD/msicuu2.exe

2) Run this utility to super clean the lovely KB928366 p.o.s. of an update

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A4EFC33-0343-4EE4-B0C4-97BD16967A09&displaylang=en

Now, if you have a 32 bit machine, which you likely do, use the last

download link entitled Cleanup-x86.exe. Why it's not entitled x32.exe is

beyond me, but this is Microsoft we are dealing with!

3) Install the .NET framework 1.1

http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/a/c/aac39226-8825-44ce-90e3-bf8203e74006/dotnetfx.exe

4) Install the .NET framework service pack 1

http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/b/4/8b4addd8-e957-4dea-bdb8-c4e00af5b94b/NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe

5) MANUALLY install the DREADED stupid p.o.s. security update that we all

would like to shoot with my new trail boss 44 magnum

http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/ndp1.1sp1-kb928366-x86_20112ef50011e0de2c0e3378139245d81a178b15.exe

ALSO, BEFORE YOU START, DISABLE ALL ANTIVIRUS, ANTISPYWARE, ANTI WHATEVER

SOFTWARE, HIPS, SOFTWARE FIREWALLS (short of the windows firewall) etc.

Hi guys,

there is one solution that might help. It is a workaround not a patch. So

the workaround is to stop the .Net service and make it start manually.

This solved my misery for now. Although for some of you this might be a

problem due to some application requiring .Net to start automatically
