Okay, so I am having a serious issue. I could give you the shpeal about how music is my life and what not, but I won't. I got the Windows 8 OS on my computer I just bought because it was the latest and 'GREATEST' thing. Well, at this point I aim to disagree. I have used windows since I was like, 6 right? Well, Windows 8 and it's Windows Media player don't seem to function on the same page. I got used to 8, but I hadn't tried to toy around with the WMP on the laptop. I got it to open, but it froze up and refused to start anything, other than have a blue spinning circle whenever I hovered over the window. If anyone has a solution other than me having to download all …

Hello! I have a Laptop Dell Latitude XT2 which was shipped with Win Vista 32bit and 3GB ram at the time, but with upgrade disc to Win 7 32 bit (I think was long ago). I got the discounted upgrade to Win8 from Microsoft, so I did online upgrade to Win 8 32bit which works perfectly on this laptop (except somewhat slow). So, I have purchased a new RAM upgrade, which brings my laptop to the maximum of 5GB it is capable of having, however now I am not sure how to change windows 8 to 64bit to fully use the extra new memory? While I prefer to do it legit without dealing with cracks/activation, I am NOT going to pay once more for the same product, just to get the very same …

Hey there, In looking through forums, I see that I should be able view my Bluetooth device status through the networks portion of the Settings Charm after selecting "Change PC Settings". Also, going to airplane mode should disable it. Neither is the case for me. Has anyone seen this? I also noticed right clicking my Bluetooth systray item doesn't allow me to disable the device. I have to go to Device ManagerNetwork Adapters listing and disable it there. Further, when I connect my bluetooth headset, the only way that I have found to connect it is to go to playback devices and manually connect through there. This seems a step back from Windows 7, but I…

I am using a Dell Latitude 10 tablet with Windows 8 Pro plus Media Center with a Kensington Folio Expert bluetooth keyboard and case. In device manager under the Bluetooth Radio Properties, the option for "Allow this device to wake the computer" is greyed out. I would like the disable bluetooth devices from waking the computer because when I close the case, keys get pressed which then wake up the tablet (and start wasting battery). I have looked in the BIOS for any Bluetooth settings but there aren't any options for this. Is there a registry key I can use to either disable the bluetooth wake or ungrey out the option in device manager? View the full…

I've read various posts on this for Windows 7 and Server 2008, but the problem still exists in Windows 8 Pro. Does anyone know which bits of advice are relevant to Windows 8? And why is the issue still here 5 years later? Thanks View the full article

Hello guys, This is the scenario. I am using Outlook 2013 and Windows 8 Enterprise. Simply drag a email from your inbox to a folder on your disk. Right-click on one of the column headers (i am in details view) - and choose More... There are many e-mail related fields visible: from, to, cc, bcc, etc... select them all It is obvious, the e-mail related fields do not use the file contents of a Outlook .msg file to fill in this metadata fields. But i was wondering how and with what this does work? And does anybody know a way to fill this Windows Explorer metadata fields? Already, thank you very much, Sven View the full article

So when I go to open my Photos App on my Microsoft 8 start tile page thing, the tile flips towards the screen and as soon as the tile fills up the screen everything just goes back to the start tile page thing again. This is really annoying and it does the same thing with the Messaging app, but I really don't care about that app. I've uninstalled it and installed again and there was no difference. What the heck did I do? And how do I fix this issue? View the full article

I have a SQL based maintenance management system that has entry points to various modules like equipment lists and inventory lists. We use BMP files for the icons that users can click on to navigate to the various menus. They display perfectly in all versions of Windows until Windows8 came out. I can temporarily see them by going into Control Panel, selecting Personalization, changing from the Windows default themes of "Windows" to High Contrast #1, then back to "Windows". My navigation buttons appear as the normally do. If I log out of my application and log back in, those navigation buttons are hidden again. They are there since I can …

I work in IT at a large university. I ordered a Dell XPS14 laptop for a person in my unit. I ordered it with Win 7 pro installed, but I just took it out of the box and it has Win 8 Pro installed. Win 7 Enterprise (vol. licensed) is our standard desktop config, so I want to downgrade. I believe this is allowable with the volume licensing -- activation should be through our local kms server. My question is with the UEFI. I turned security OFF, but now I'm not sure about the installation. Do I need to reconfigure things back to CMOS, or can I still use UEFI and the current HD setup, or do I need to reformat the drive? View the full article

I've recently built a new system and installed Windows 8 on it but have been having random system restarts. I'm getting BSODs caused by different drivers, usually it's 'ntoskrnl.exe' but have also had 'Wdf01000.sys' and 'bridge.sys'. I've attached a screenshot of BlueScreenView below. So far I've tried a few different routes of troubleshooting and everything is coming up clean. -ran Memtest overnight with no errors -ran sfc/scannow which came back clean -currently running Prime 95 on CPU for the last 3 hours with no errors so far I've attached a link to the last 7 minidump files generated by the system. I was hoping that someone could take a look at these a…

I have just performed a clean install of Win 8 Pro Upgrade. When this had finished and I had got my Win Live Mail working, I started to create a storage pool. I have 3 hard drives of varying sizes, C:, D:, and E: and a USB connected Iomega drive as F:. C had the new installation of Win 8. D: and E: were empty but formatted and showing OK in Disk Manager and E contained 25 years of data. When it asked me to select the disks to be in the Storage Pool, I selected D: and E:. When it had completed, I was aghast to find that it had lost the original E: drive and had used the F: drive, now labelled E: drive, as the second drive in the storage pool, wiping 25 years of data. Dis…

Windows 8 Pro Menu While I like and promote the new metro look seldom does one thing work for all users and since I have the ability to do custom deployments in my business environment what I would prefer to do is deploy Windows 8 with a classic desktop to our office workstations and leave metro for our laptops, especially the touch screens. Other the the Developers Preview I have not found a registry on off switch yet, anyone out there know of one? View the full article
