Hi everyone... My web site is using Windows Authentication, and grant everyone with an domain account access to the web site. When using IE7, IE8, or IE9, the domain user can access the web site without being prompted for a password. When using IE10 (on a Windows 8 Pro deployment), the user is prompted everytime. Is there a setting I can change somewhere so that IE10 will provide these credentials automatically? Thanks! View the full article

I compiled a desktop app in Windows 8 with a reference to "Windows.winmd", but it is constantly failing with "ResolveManifestFiles task faiiled unexpectedly". When I turned full trust in Clickonce off, it worked, but I need full trust, in order to write registry keys. What can I do??? NOTE: I have inserted the snippet for targeting Windows 8: <propertygroup> <targetplatformversion>8.0</targetplatformversion> </propertygroup> View the full article

I was helping someone set up their new Windows 8 PC. They already had Office 2013, Skype, SkyDrive, some HP software for their printer, and a few other software items, such as 'Classic Start 8' start button installed. We started a Windows Remote Assistance session, so I could help them install Adobe Acrobat XI Standard. We were nearly through the install when the screen started flashing every few seconds. Although the flashing made the Windows Desktop UI very hard to use, I was eventually able to bring up the task manager to see that each flash seemed to correspond to a new process being created for 'Thumbnail Handler Extraction Host'. There must have been a hundred or…

I just experienced an interesting issue, which I cannot find a way around. Scenario 1 If a user is logged into the Mail app, and the computer is shut down with the Hotmail app still running. The user never logged out of Hotmail or closed the app prior to shutting down. Next time when the user starts the computer, the Hotmail app comes up and asks, the user for the Hotmail password. The issue is that the user cannot remember the password. There is no password reset button, and the user cannot get into windows. Even pressing F8 to go into safe mode at bootup does not work. There is no way to close the app, or get back to the metro screen if the user cannot log in. No…

Hi, I need to find a fix for this issue I have with a change in Windows 8. I am running Windows 8 Pro and normally (in windows 7 and older) when I Right click on a folder, the default option for properties is "r". Nice and quick and next to my left hand which rests on the left side of the keyboard. Now it has changed to "o" and not only that, there are 2 options for "o". Open and Properties. Very frustrating and not very easy to get around. Any way of getting around this whether it be alternative software or reg hack or something... anything. Itsvery annoying. I have been using windows 8 for long time now, I have some feedback about windows 8 app store. The prices on windows 8 app store is above 1 dollar for most of the apps, On the other hand apple/android store have most of the apps available in 99 cents. I have baught lots of apps from apple aand android store. Most of the users psycological trigger for buying apps is set to 99cents, I did not buy a single app in windows store because its seems so expensive to me. I have a honest suggestion for windows 8 apps team to reduce windows 8 apps prices to 99 cents (bring more quality apps in 99cents) if they want people to start buying apps from windows 8 store. Thanks View…

I want to have a simple .bat file to map WebDAV-directories. I would like it to contain two actions: 1) net start WebClient 2) net use z: "https://....." (several of them) The first action only works when I run the batch file as administrator. The second one then succeeds but the mapped drive is not visible under my account. So I first have to start the service, and then I can run the batch containing only the "net use" actions under my account. How can I run both commands under my account? I tried "runas.exe" on the first command, but it did not work, and this does not seem to be not logical. View the full artic…

I asked this question back in December and no one could give me a straight answer because I guess no one actually knew for sure, but I think I can set the record straight in case anyone else is wondering...If you took advantage of the Media Center freebie that accompanied the introductory sale of Win 8 Pro for $39.99, you know that you got a separate key from Microsoft for Media Center along with instructions to activate on or before Jan 31, 2013, else the key would not work past the expiration of the introductory program. Many folks, including me, were concerned that this meant that in the event we had to do a complete reinstall of Win8 (format c:, etc.) that our keys…

Is there a fix for fonts in the windows 8 . I got a asus vivotab smart10.1 windows 8 tablet 1366x768 native resolution. The fonts are using sub-pixel positioned grayscale which is hurting my eyes . Is there a fix or registry entries to make metro ie 10 to use subpixel positioned cleartype or display ie 8 behaviour . I cant believe that Microsoft engineers cant even get usability right ? how are users going to use these tablets. You get one chance at this and it so bad Is there a fix coming or is there a workaround ? View the full article

I am having problems with my windows 8 users accidentally turning on the magnifier (accessibility options). The manager is getting a little peeved because it is disrupting the traders and causes them to have to divert their attention to fixing the problems in lieu of managing the floor. I assume that there is a registrty entry for it but I am unable to find it. Thank you View the full article

Hi, I upgraded my PC from Windows 7 to 8 and it was running fine until a few weeks ago. It had a problem closing down one day and ran scandisk the next time it booted. Everything seemed fine initially, but now, everytime it is left for a short while, the PC will blue screen and then reboot itself. Checking the event log, I can see the following error: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000051 (0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff8a000bdb010, 0x00000000999ea3a1, 0x00000000000001c0). A dump was saved in: C:WINDOWSMEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 020813-24703-01. From the research I've done I believe this is an error with the registry. I've run Memtest86 …

Hi everybody, does someone of you know what I have to do now? What I did wrong: Turned the System to Hibernation. Booted a Windows 8 from USB Harddisk. Opened the Storage Space and wrote a file on it. Rebooted and continued the other System. I understand, that this was not my best idea I ever had... grrr I have an Event log entry indicating some further Details: Die Konfiguration konnte vom physischen Laufwerk "{7934ba4-fdcc-bb8d-806e3246963}" nicht gelesen werden, oder es wurden beschädigte Daten für Speicherpool "{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}" zurückgegeben. We are seeing an issue of Excel and PDF files locking up and creating a 0kb temp file that can not be deleted. This is happening multiple times a day and the only way to delete the tmp file is to reboot the server. Users are getting this when attempting to save their work from a Windows 8 machine to a Server 2012 file server. This issue is effecting our users' productivity, We have disabled the proactive virus software in hopes that it would fix the issue, however it does not seem to have had any effect. We are still getting the same issue. Has anyone else seen this issue? Does anyone know a resolve for this? View the full article

Hi, I purchased & downloaded a copy of Windows 8 but wanted to test it first so I installed it on my test machine to test it. I have since removed it off the test machine but now I can't activate it on my main machine because it is complaining about it being on more than one machine. Is there anyway, short of buying a new copy of Windows 8, to activate it on my main machine now? Thanks View the full article

Hi, I just bought new laptop with windows 8 installed, and it was my first day working with new win8. And here is what I'd like to ask: why microsoft didn't made "metro" UI optional? Why I have to go through it every time I start my computer? Why when I'm already in "classic" UI you guys at microsoft decided to ruin my nerves with these popuping up all the time menus when I'm trying to close browser window in top right corner, or when I'm trying to run skype from left bottom corner? why you think that you know what is better for me and you gonna type "well, give it a chance, maybe you will love it later!" What is …
