Hello. We have a GPO that amongst other things forces a corporate desktop wallpaper on our client PCs. We've now got a handful of windows 8 machines that we've started testing and this all appeared to be working as it should do, but recently one of them has started giving a plain black desktop background. When we had this in the past on a couple of W7 clients we used the hotfix as mentioned in the link below, but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent for W8 and the registry change mentioned in the same article had no effect. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977944?wa=wsignin1.0 Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it? Thanks View the full article

I recently built a soundboard to be used in Skype, and I want to enable both stereo mix, and my external mic so that i may use my mic whilst able to use the soundboard to play clips during my podcast. I have tried many methods, and have found no solution to this without having to disable one or the other in some way. I hope for a speedy reply as I have limited time. View the full article

I just finished getting this PC all setup and upgraded to windows8. After upgrading to windows 8 I keep getting "Your PC has ran into a problem and needs to restart" when waking it. It doesn't always happen but enough that I would rather fix the problem then to let it continue. Anyone think they could help me figure out what my problem is? I would greatly appreciate it... I have a Toolbar that I wrote years ago. The toolbat is activated as I logon by the registry, however under Windows eight, the taskmgr is not activated, when I request it. I am told the requested operation needs elevation. I presume the error is referring to privileges. When I run the toolbar with privileges everything is ok. What I an asking for is a place in the registry that will run the toolbar, when I login - with privileges. Alternately, does anyone know how to turn on privileges in code? I have searched no one has asked yet. I have read the large threads on the subject. My key supplier (major name in UK) are saying less and less models are left that come with Win7. Also that I can not downgrade Win8 EOM therefore my only option is to buy Win8 volume licencing! I know I could buy a fix tempted to ask them to pay for it. There is the open source fix but do I want a 1000 PCs that one day stop because MS send out a patch combating the fixes. Thanks Gary No one needs the headaches this has brought to business users. I was wondering if there was any way to create a desktop shortcut to emulate the Windows Key on a keyboard? I am running Windows 8 and there are times I am in the Desktop mode and want to go to the Start screen, without the use of the keyboard and the pop up does not appear. I wanted something Solid that I could Pin to the task bar, making it easier to switch screens. I think this would make my life on Windows8 easier. Let me know if you have any answers. When I start the computer, it boots slowly. When I finally get to the start screen, I cannot click any apps for it freezes every time. Even when I go to the main desktop, and I click a program, it freezes. The Internet is fine and battery is full. I tried taking the battery out for a while and restarting it multiple times and it is still acting the same way. Does anyone have a solution? View the full article

Hi everyone, i have just purchased a new computer with Windows 8 on it. I have been doing quite well over the weekend getting around it as previously I had XP. Today though I have come across something I really don't understand. On turning on my computer I received a message "Windows update" Your computer will restart in 2 days! Has anyone else come across this? Surely windows update can't leave you without a computer for 2 days! Fortunately I still have my old one up and running Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated as i obviously still have 48 hours to wait until I can use my new computer again! View the full article

Is there an efficient way to scroll through long pages and list using touch ('grab' the scroll bar)?

Overall, I'm loving Win 8 on my new touch screen laptop. There's definitely some learning and adjusting to do, but I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a non-touch screen device again. But when using the touch screen, I haven't found a good way to scroll through long pages in IE metro or long lists when navigating my music library in the stock metro music app. A scroll bar does appear on the right side of the screen once I start flicking the page/list up or down. But I can't seem to "grab" the scroll bar to efficiently move far up and down the list. This grab functionality is present in many of the apps on my Android phone. Flick the screen…

But it's not there Then I thought I needed to enable hardware visualization in BIOS, but couldn't find anything there either. I got an Acer Aspire S7 with a Intel Core i7 3517U CPU. Does anyone have a clue? Mikael If this answers your question, please use the "Answer" button to say so... Mikael - http://blogical.se/blogs/mikael View the full article

Hello, It seems that a bug appear in the Swiss French Keyboard layout in Windows 8. The Decimal Symbol is defined as the coma and the Swiss Standard is the Point. I tried to English and French version of Windows 8 and it's the same. It's Possible to correct it manually by going to "Control Panel" then "Region" then "Additional Settings" but it's not normal, i think. Can someone tell me if i'm doing something wrong or if it's a Bug (known or not). Chris Regard TTT SA Switzerland View the full article
