I am having an issue with Storage Spaces in Windows 8 Pro. I have a few internal and a few external drives that I added to different storage spaces, (1 for video, 1 for music, 1 for pics, etc...) and they are all showing up just fine under Computer, but under the Manage Storage Spaces it shows no drives listed and won't let me make any changes at all to them (as they are not showing up). I did a refresh and it came back, but then disappeared a few days later. I only installed Plex media server and windows updates are this is being used to serve media only, not used for anything else. Any help or ideas would be appreciated! View the full article

I have to say this to someone. I am really disappointed with Windows 8. I upgraded from W7 after a great experience with my new W8 phone. I love the UI. Metro works great for me. I don't even mind that the Windows key is gone. It's the buggyness that I can't get past. Take the mail app for example. It crashes every other email. I'm not kidding either. I delete one email. I delete the next and it crashes. Visual Studio takes 5 minutes (that's 313 seconds) to load, and I have 4 gig of RAM, a 7200 RPM drive and an i3 chip. Then I run a simple app in VS and my network simply disappears! W8 hangs at least once a day, some days several times. It is completely unresponsive for…

Hi everybody, I'm considering using Windows 8 "storage spaces" to combine two external disks with 2-way mirroring. What will happen if, for some reason, my OS disk is no longer available. How will a fresh installation of Windows 8 react to an existing storage space? Will it automatically recognise the storage space or does the storage space configuration rely on state stored on the OS disk? Thank you! Daniele View the full article

Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. Windows 8 boots ok. Logs in ok and start screen displays ok. I can run apps from the start screen without any problems. If however, I launch the desktop, it's blank. No icons, no wallpaper and nothing at all on the task band. Right click on the 'start button' I can access the usual stuff. Set command within cmd shows that the path to the desktop is correct Looking in resource manager shows that explorer is waiting on a service (WCT) but I can only get a pid for svchost. Has anyone seen the sort of thing before? Does anyone have any quick solution? This is the home desktop that the wife and kids have access to and the…

Before I begin, I have searched for answers for this problem and the main thread people seem to point to as the answer (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/zh/w7itprogeneral/thread/3175f930-84f6-49f7-bccb-2964ea85d050) applies to Windows 7 and doesn't work for Windows 8. I have a Windows Server 2012 Essentials domain with several clients connected to the Essentials server as domain members. One of the computers is used by my daughter who was previously using Windows 7 with Windows Live Family Safety before I upgraded the server from WHS 2011 to WSE 2012. After domain joining the client, the Family Safety settings disappeared from Control Panel. This was resolve…

In Windows 8, I accidentally associated dll files with notebook and need them to be associated with nothing - I've figured out how to change the association to another program but cannot figure out how to return them to unaffiliated status. The earlier posts are not applicable to Windows 8. View the full article

I was in the middle of browsing the TechNet site for a download when suddenly my laptop shut down and rebooted into a maintenance mode where I was locked out, it told me "cleaning up" do not power off your pc. needless to say I was at its mercy for as long as it decided to take. I found this little hiccup very annoying and would like to know what windows was doing, I am assuming it might be a scheduled "cleanup" but please warn a guy before just rebooting and locking up my pc for 45 minutes View the full article

Greetings, I have just migrated to Windows 8 on my home computer. I notice that after a little while the computer basically shuts itself down. When I press the power button, it comes up within seconds. I assume its hibernating. So Im wondering do I really need to ever shut down the machine manually as I always used to do or just leave it and let it go to sleep all the time? (Obviously I have to restart when certain software is installed). Thanks David Z View the full article

I have following strange problem with keyboard and czech national characters: On czech keyboard some characters are writen as "combined" - one "modification" character followed by letter. Example: ˇ + T = Ť Now my problem is- on keyboard which is set as system default (czech QWERTY) it does not work, it produces: Example: ˇ + T = ˇˇT Well and the confusing part: The problem appears to be only when the keyboard is set as system default. If i select another keyboard as system default, and switch to "my" keyboard after start, the "my" keyboard works correctly. (But if the keyboard is set as default, switch…

Win8 Pro system whereby Device Manager (DM) hangs after invoking a scan for new hardware. The scan never completes and I cannot close Device Manager except by force via Task Manager. This system was in-place upgraded from Win7-Win8 a couple of days ago and after the Win8 desktop first came up I checked Device Manager and was able to perform the scan. The missing/incorrect driver I had to deal with was for my wireless device. Windows Update did not install a driver for it when invoked via the drivers tab on the device object. After downloading the latest driver from Acer for this laptop I attempted to install it however, that didn't go so smooth. The installer hung …

I was playing WoW on my windows 8 computer. The computer crashed and when it rebooted a screen flashed that said your computer has ran into a problem and needs to reboot. upon rebooting it comes up "Preparing Automatic Repair". It sits there for a while and I guess it fails because it reboots and flashes the computer ran into a problem screen again and repeats. I have tried getting the PC into safe mode it doesnt come up. I do not have a windows 8 install DVD to boot to. I downloaded an upgrade from vista to windows 8 from microsoft to get windows 8 on my computer. Is there anything I can do to get this fixed?
