I have a few applications that require flash player to be installed. They were working up till a month or so ago. Now when i try to run them it says flash is not installed. When I go into Internet Explorer and go to adobe's website, it shows i don't have flash player installed, nor will any flash apps work in IE. I followed their guide of uninstalling and re installing but the KB they ask me to uninstall doesn't exist, when i try to download the installer it says its not compatible with my OS. Anyone know how to re-install Flash for windows 8? PS: Flash works with Chrome using their build in flash player. Brad Nelson MCSE/DCSE/A+/Network+/WCSP View the full ar…

In Windows 8 on a new HP Pavilion explorer.exe and LiveCom.exe, and occasionally other identified processes, are shown as Established connections when I type 'netstat -ano' into Command Prompt. Is this normal, and is there any danger here of hacking etc, please? Only IE used to show as Established in Vista, as it also does in Windows 8. Thanks for any help, Robin. View the full article

If I use Task Scheduler to open a file or program, the file or program opens (I can see it's opened in Task Manager) but it does not show up in an interactive Window. The code below is for opening an Internet Explorer Window with a html file that plays a song and reminds me to take my medication. I can hear the song playing when the task activates but no interactive Window opens. I can also see Internet Explorer is running in Task Manager and I can end the task there or in Task Scheduler. The same thing happens if I try to use Task Scheduler to open an .exe program. The task is set to run in Windows 8 and I'm running Windows 8 Pro. Could that be the problem? The Code: …

I noticed I'm having a similar issue to this guy: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/br/w8itprogeneral/thread/408e7970-18bb-4eef-8177-a4cac46d7051 Basically what's happening is when I connect to our domain, I have to use a different DNS server than everyone else in our organization. If I use the DNS server we use for all the other computers, it won't let me join the domain (claiming it can't find the Active Directory Domain Controller). It says it's a private network instead of a domain network. If I use the DNS server that's behind our firewall (which, to my knowledge...isn't even a DNS server), it'll let me join the domain like normal. The network adapter wi…

I have 2 500GB drives with 2 volumes. One Two-way mirror and one simple. I have been creating and deleting files on the Two-way mirror but it seems that even though the files have been deleted the space is not freed back to storage spaces. I am currently using about 200GBs but Storage Spaces reports I am using 469GBs. The simple volume seems to be accurate although it gets less use so it is harder to tell. My Computer, Disk Management, and Disk part all agree there should be about 200GBs used. According to the document "Understand and Troubleshoot Storage Spaces in Windows Server 8" it says "This means just-in-time allocation and releasing …

I am considering the purchase of a new desktop PC. I am pretty certain that it comes with the 64-bit version of Windows 8 installed. I would like to know if and how I can swith to the 32-bit version of Windows. Related to this question is my understanding that the 32-bit version of Windows 8 allows for the use of old DOS bases 16-bit software (.exe files) but that the 64-bit version does not. Any info/assistance related to my questions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. View the full article

I have image files associated to some desktop programs (i.e., JPG as default opens with Photoshop and PNG opens with Windows Photo Viewer). The problem is, after I install a photography/viewer app (from the store), and I try to open, lets say, a PNG file by doing double click on it... a black toast message pops reading "You have new apps that can open this type of file"... Off course, I have to select "Keep using Windows Photo Viewer to open this file type" option... But I really want to know how to disable this prompt, because I've set already the default programs to open files before! Every time that I install a music, photography or…

Hi, I have an issue with a white rectangular box appearing in the top left corner of my laptop screen. It covers the icons behind it and renders them 'unclickable'. Nothing happens if the box itself is clicked on. It does not stay on top of other windows, just the desktop. It appears after the laptop has been to sleep and on occasions, just seems to appear randomly. I believe it may be a problem with Display Link drivers i use for a universal adapter for multiple monitors. I have asked around on display links forums but i am yet to find a solution (updated all drivers, uninstalled, re-installed, etc.), so i thought I would ask you guys if you have any i…

I have installed the Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) windows update for Windows 8. After downloading, running it, accepting the license and conducting a successful installation, two problems arise: The installed update hasn't appeared in the Installed Updates list with Programs and Features. The RSAT options haven't appeared in the Turn Windows features on or off list within Programs and Features. According to many threads within this forum, there appears to be an issue with the English (UK) language pack. The issue is apparently resolved once the English (US) pack is installed. Well, the English (US) pack appears in the Languages section of my build …

I tried to remove an entire group of start items from the "all apps" start screen. I followed a link to a shortcut and removed the short cut. I have already removed the app. (actually an entire group of apps, Qt 5.0.0). Now the Qt 5.0.0 "start group" is still on the start screen, and when I click on any item, it goes to the desktop. How do I remove these zombies from the start screen? Thanks for any help in advance. View the full article

windows 8 restarted the boss's computer without the option to postpone it and lost everything open. This is such a fatal flaw we are not going to roll out windows 8 until we have confirmed this is fixed at any of our clients. What a disaster! There is no obvious way to disable this! Please show us where to set it in group policy or in the settings to ban this behavior, I can't believe windows shipped without this being fixed! View the full article
