I created a custom system image by creating a directory "C:Refreshimage" and typing "recimg -Createimage C:Refreshimage" All from an elevated prompt. The system created a file "CustomRefresh.wim" in that directory. Later I searched "refresh", went to "settings","Troubleshoot","Advanced options", "System Image Recovery". The system rebooted, I selected my account, entered my password, hit "continue". Got the following response: WINDOWS CAN NOT FIND A SYSTEM IMAGE ON THIS PC. I need some help. I'm lost. Exactly as the title says. I want to use this touch interface mail for our existing exchange accounts. But then the mail app requires me to setup an MS Account...? We have hundreds of users - this is retarded. Do Apple require me to setup Apple IDs for exchange access? What gave anyone the retarded idea that this would be ok? Seriously what do I do? I have hundreds of users and will be moving a few to Windows 8 Tablets - Creating Microsoft Accounts isn't an option for an enterprise at all. View the full article

Hi, Just this morning I was using windows 8 with no problems and had to restart for some reason or another, and when I came back to my PC I found that Windows booted normally until I got to the welcome screen where it would come up with my normal color scheme and say "Please wait" it did this for so long that the lockscreen appeared, then for a split second my screen went black, then Please wait appeared again but for some reason it had the default blue color scheme, again this took so long the lockscreen appeared but that was also the default picture, then it went crazy and started going black every other second constantly coming up with that same "Please Wait" screen. …

Ok, i've installed Windows 8 Pro. Until now, I've got the habit of moving the pagefile.sys to a secondary HDD, on a dedicated partition. It was easy to move it. Now in 8 a new file - swapfile.sys is present for use with Metro Apps. But there is no setting to allow it to be moved to another HDD. It's linked to the pagefile.sys only when you disabled this one, it will dissapear too, but if you move this one, the swapfile.sys still remains on the C: Any ideea of how to move also this one ? My main "HDD" is now an SSD, and I don't want this file here, I want to move it on the dedicated partition of an VelociRaptor HDD. For the moment I've disabled them, but I have 2 games a…

Hi, When booting with a DART 8 media (created using MDOP 2012), and accessing the "Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset", many features display a black unusable link labeled "Tool requires a supported offline OS". 1. The installed OS is Windows 8 PRO, x64 and so is DART (x64) 2. When using the "Explorer" feature (which works), I can access without any problem the drive on which Windows is installed. Q: What is a "supported offline OS" then? Thanks. Thomas. View the full article

How to turn of the display in Windows 8 without locking or making computer go to sleep ? The problem is that when I enable ‘Turn off display after x minutes’ feature from control panel, the device goes into sleep after ‘x’ minutes. It seems that both the options – turn off display/put computer to sleep are connected. It devices goes automatically to sleep mode as soon as the display is turned off. So, is there any method to turn off the display of the device without it going into sleep mode ? Also, whenever the display turns off, the device automatically locks. So, is there a way by which I can disable it ? My objective is to turn off the display and keep the syst…

I just paid $39.99 to download Windows 8, after being a beta tester for a long, long time. I was told that once the public release version of Windows 8 was on sale that the cursor jumping would stop. It is as bad as ever though. Will this problem please be fixed by Microsoft as an update? http://www.angelfire.com/sc2/DrGary123/Links.html View the full article

Media Player needs help badly. 11 worked far better and with less frustration. Media Player 12 will not Sync to anything except an audio player. SD cards USB sticks mass storage of any kind are not seen by the player. No issues with windows seing them and recognized for what they are. why such problems for simple normal everyday use items. Even to editing the files so they are in the right place in the library is near to impossible. I can't believe microsoft would change a functional system for something that should be scrapped. I've some coments about unistalling and re installing why so labour intensive there has to be an easier answer.....does anyone have one?? …

Reconfirmation: There is an error in the Start Screens handling of group virtualization - that can (

Basically the Start Screens layout will mess up a lot when you install some program that is already a member of group, but that group had been automatically hidden because it was empty. Reconfirmation: Start Screen fails (messes up) if a group is initally "virtualized" away - and after that a program is installed that would have belonged in that group. Problem: The Start Screen never rediscovers the group membership of that program on i.e. PC2. However, that program formally has a group membership on the Start Screen web service i.e. originating from i.e. PC1. Symptom: The effect of the sync problem - originating from the lack of rediscovery (alike redi…

I am using GP user preferences to create shortcuts on my users' desktops. On all my Vista/Win7 machines they are fine and the icons are what I set them to be. on all my Win8 machines the icon is just a blank white square. If I right-click and view the icon, the correct image appears. But when the user is looking at the desktop the image is blank. I have upgraded a couple machines, scratch built one, and purchased an OEM version on a new laptop. All are the same: blank shortcut icons. Surely I'm not the only person testing Win8 in a domain environment, right? View the full article

1. If I unzip a Windows 7 ZIP file in Windows 8, then the modified date of all extracted files has the system date. If I unzip a Windows 8 ZIP file in Windows 7, then the modified date is changed, too. If I prepare and unzip a ZIP file in Windows 8, then everything is ok. 2. If I save a file in the Mail-App, then the modified date of the saved file has also the system date. At the installation of Windows 8 the partition was formatted. I have Windows 8 64-bits and have installed all Windows updates. However, the problem also can be put, if only Windows 8 is installed and no programs. Sorry for my bad english. View the full article

I have a HDCP compliant setup - but when I have hyper-v installed, my compliance is broken. PowerDVD's BD Advisor fails, as well as the Digital Cable Advisor built into media center... both say my video card fails. Turning off hyper-v restores full HDCP playback. How can I have HDCP compliance and still use hyper-v? View the full article

On a fresh install of Windows 8, windows file explorer is already pinned to the task bar on the desktop. I accidently unpinned this icon and now I cannot get it back. The logical way to do this is to go to the start screen, right click file explorer and choose the 'Pin to taskbar', but for some reason I don't get this option for file explorer. I can pin lots of other desktop applications, but just not file explorer. I work mostly from the desktop so it's really annoying to have to flick back to the start screen every time I want to start file explorer. Thinking I must be going mad, I tried the same thing on the Windows Server 2012 desktop and now I have exactly the sam…

Hello, I've been asked in the community forum to post this here, so I will, and fill some info in. I upgraded to Windows 8, and most stuff ran ok. I ran the compatibilty checker, and it came through thta most of my stuff would work without change, including a Citrix system we use. My wife uses citrix to get on to her company network from home. I'm not overly sure about what Citrix does, but she goes to - http://xenweb/citrix/xendesktop/auth/login.. Puts in her user name and a password, then her CAG number (a keyfob), and gets to her VDE. Since installing Windows 8, we're not able to get to the point where it will go past the orginal password and CAG entry -…

Hi I have recently upgraded my PC to windows 8, but unable to access a number of the titles, apart from IE & MAP. I get no error message or connect issues (can access internet via desktop). I am currently downloading a different version of anti-virus software than the 30 day trial that was provided with my new computer. However, I haven't been able to as there is still some trace of the old program on the computer. I have uninstalled all components of the program from the control panel but want to check the registry to make sure that everything has been removed. 1. How do I get to the registry? 2. How do I delete the program from the registry (Norton)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. View the full article
