Hi, A couple of days ago certain apps stopped opening including store. I don't get any errors just the splash screen opens with the logo and closes again. I've tried changing the UAC settings, disabling AVAST, there isn't a problem with the screen resolution.Don't want to have to do a clean install and that will just be a hassle. I've also tried refresh but my laptop doesn't seem to refresh windows 8. It gets to the point where it asks me to insert the media with the installation file which I do but then it says it can't verify it. Anyone got any other suggestions? I'm currently using windows 8 pro. Thanks View the full article

I have a new Asus Republic of Gamers laptop and immediately upgraded to Windows 8 . I downloaded a few programs and just ran the sigverif.exe program , which shows all my drivers are signed . However , I've been getting this error message consistently on boot up . Restarting the laptop takes forever , programs are running very slowly and my wifi keeps turning itself off , even though connections are available . There are no viruses on the computer either . I am not terribly tech savvy and most responses to similar posts have either been specific to other Windows versions , skipped steps in the troubleshooting process (for example, how do I effect a "minidump&…

I have a win8 pro system that until today listed network computers in win explorer. Now all that lists is my computer. I can ping and DNA find the domain devices (e.g., \server1). They just do not list In win explorer. I've flushed DNS reloaded network driver, reloaded domain connector, checked network sharing/discovery policy and found no errors, and it still will not list domain devices. any ideas? Hi all, I have a Sony laptop with windows 8 which has just forced me to restart because of an update. When it started back up I noticed that my Dropbox and other notifications were not starting up. When I went to power setting it said "update and restart" so I assumed it needed to apply further updates. Clicking this or "update and shutdown" did nothing, I could not restart the laptop Having no choice I held down the power button and when it turned off I started it back up. When starting up it said there was an error and it is fixing it, stating it could take over an hour. About 10 minutes later the screen had lines all over it and it automatically restarted, then it sa…

All other updates installed without any problem, only this one fails to install. My computer is properly connected to Internet. "Enable/Disable Windows Features" dialog works properly(I can add/remove functions to/from windows without problem). I've tried the following fixes without success: run "sfc /scannow" : it found some minor irrelevant problems and successfully fixed them all run the "windows update trouble-shooter": it reports that it found some problems("detected potential windows update database error 0x80073712" and "must repair windows update componets", both were marked as "fixed") and fixed them all, but all it actually did was clearing-out my "installed u…

Hi, I did an upgrade install of Win8x64 Pro (final) from Win7x64 Pro. It all went very well and everything appears to work, however... I typically backed up in Win7 every Thu lunchtime using the Win7 built-in backup software (which I was very happy with) and I noticed yesterday that it failed. It says: 'A shadow copy could not be created. Please check "VSS" and "SPP" application event logs for more information. Details: Insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data.' I checked the application event log but there isn't anything VSS or SPP relevant. I have four HDDs. The boot/Windows disk is a 256Gb SSD (C:). The ne…

Hi - this is sort of two questions and an answer in one post. Answer first for those who don't want to read the technical stuff:DNS Client Service needs to be at least in a manual (not disabled) setting to indirectly launch a url in Metro IE in a reasonable amount of time due to what a appears to be a near-infinite loop. Technical stuff: I did the in-place upgrade from Windows 7 a couple weeks ago, and there were a few hiccups - but most were pretty common and I found a solution to pretty easily (Windows Store and others requiring Windows Firewall service, wiping the windows update history folder so built-in metro apps could update etc.). However, I had a very odd iss…

i have 4 hardrives in my P.C. all with independant win 7 or vista OS accessible by using the boot menu at startup . I decided to put win 8 on a spare hardrive and connect it up . win 8 works fine, i can see the other drives eventually and with a bit of luck move files around but it isnt as easy to as win 7 however the big problem occurs when i want to go back to a win 7 or vista drive as each time they startup they go into the check disk routine , which takes ages as it always finds faults on the win 8 drive, if i let it correct these issues win 8 starts to start up but hangs and there is no picture or anything on the screens. strangely enough if you leave it alone it wil…

Seems to me it is not how fast a start of product is but how stable and an enduring trust it produces . These are Apple distinctives that produced a loyal customer base and high quality products . A true visionary goes where no one else has gone before a plan of true cross device compatability can only come when constraints are released not hemmed in by protocol. Sell on this distinctive of bringing everyone on the same playing field and accessability and the path to true voice computing will happen quicker. Yes device compatability on a common platform is achievable but stay the course and sales will come. The character Scotty in Star Tek indeed as well said mice and…

Hi All, I have an issue with the Windows Log In Screen unfortunately it does not happen everytime. The issue is this: When I wake up my laptop from sleep it displays my Windows 8 Log in background but does not show the clock or the notification and clicking on the background it does not go to the password prompt. I have to restart my laptop and then it works fine. This has happened often enough to become a nuisance especially when I have an urgent matter to take care of and I end up restarting the laptop instead. View the full article

Windows 8 Pro X64 In Windows 7 Ultimate x64 if I start Task Manager by right clicking on the taskbar and selecting it it starts without any UAC prompt running in my security context. It is only if I click on show processes from all users that I get an UAC prompt for an administrator password. In Windows 8 Pro x64 I get the UAC prompt when I start Task Manager by right clicking on the taskbar in the Desktop environment. Why? http://www.saberman.com View the full article

Windows 8 Pro X64 Internet Explorer 10 For security reasons I have turned off the automatic search from the address bar feature in IE 10. Is there some key combination to manually trigger a search from the address bar? IOW, I want to be able to type in a phrase and then trigger a search manually. I cannot have IE 10 automatically trigger a search if a mistype a URL. By the way, Ctrl-e does not work. With automatic search turned of try typing "Internet Explorer 10" into the address bar and pressing Ctrl-e. All it does is put a question mark followed by a space in front of the phrase. If you then press enter it is changed into http:///? "Internet Explorer 10" and "…

Hi, What are prerequisites for Windows 8 system images to be "found" by the system image restore facility? Any way to force Windows 8 to find a specific backup that is for some reason invisible to the restore facility? I made a system image of my Windows 8 Pro installation (using Control Panel -> Windows 7 File Recovery -> System image), then installed another OS on my main drive for a while, and now I'm trying to revert to the Windows 8 image I have. The problem is that the system image restore function does not find any images on my machine. I don't think this is an issue with missing drivers, because the hard drive and the system image files themselves can …

Will Microsoft be fixing the issue with start button, where if one is using a mouse and moves to the bottom left side of screen to make the Start button appear (why? One can't help but ask... the taskbar is there, so why not just have a permanent button on it like the last 20+yrs of GUI usability has proven works!!? BAD decision that one!!) ... why the start button disappears even though I haven't yet moved my mouse off of it. I'm still hovering my mouse pointer over it, but yet it still disappears and more often than not I end up clicking the program underneath it instead. Would it be possible to make the Start button NOT disappear until the user makes the decision t…

How do you recover from a full mirrored storage space? It's offline and won't go online again!

I have a pair of 500GB drives configured as a mirrored storage space, which is reported in the Manage Storage Spaces applet as: "Two-way mirror 493 GB Using 929 GB pool capacity" To test this thoroughly I've filled the storage space, and as expected (from what I'd read) Windows 8 automatically takes the drive offline. Disk Manager shows "The disk is offline because it is out of capacity". Now, I'd like to be able to delete some files from the storage space, but as soon as I try to bring the drive online, it immediately goes offline again. How do you get out of this situation? I have 2 monitors on my Win8 Enterprise PC. I like to have the same background picture displayed on both screens. It would seem in Windows 8, the default is to have 2 *different* backgrounds displayed on the 2 monitors. That's fine, but how do you get Win8 to use the same background on both monitors, and at the same time use all the backgrounds in your desktop background list (Personalize > Desktop Backgrounds). The only way I can find to have the same background on both displays is to right click *one* of the thumbnails in the desktop backgrounds list, and choose "set for all monitors". However, when you do this, you disable all the other chosen thumbnails, …
