Hi I bought Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro just 2 days ago in S.Korea. Everything looks fine, but the only problem is that when I use several Windows 8 style Apps, "explorer.exe" crashes occur randomly. There are also crashes when I just handle Windows 8 style UI even I don't use Windows 8 style apps, such as just touching some buttons on Charm bar. It does not happen when I use x86 or x64 desktop mode apps. Anyway, So I decided re-installing Windows 8 x64(Samsung OEM version) to Windows 8 Pro x64(TechNet version). After then same problem have been occurring, re-installing wasn't solution of this problem. I'm a system security developer, so I'm using several critical ap…

I have a Samsung 700t slate that I upgraded to win8 pro. once in a while, i.e. every other day or so the lock screen appears to be hung in that it wont slide up. the computer still seems to be alive as the cursor is visible on the screen when I have a mouse plugged in, the volume slider appears when I adjust the volume, and the autorotate button displays the message when its button is toggled. I haven't tried an rdp connection to the machine yet when its in this state. I've installed all updates from winupdate and have all the Samsung drivers installed through the Samsung driver tool. I've seen people report similar issues, but in those cases they seem to indicate that th…

I'm new to windows 8 so pardon the questions. My dumb questions is this. (Generic Credentials, Internet or network address: virtualapp/didlogical) User name is assigned! How did that name get there? Password: xxxxxxx : How did a password get assigned? What is going on here, I delete it out and when I start an app on the web the user names and password is assigned automatically. Does anyone know the maximum number of icon overlays in Windows 8? All I can find with an internet search is this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsdeveloperpreviewgeneral/thread/fc93ad37-c63b-4d13-b514-9878ec886f7d/, which says that MS is thinking about it. On a small sidenote, why does this one always comes up by the Windows 8 fans, as if it's some sort of unique revelation: http://news.cnet.com/8618-10805_3-57551433.html?assetTypeId=12&messageId=13258972 I don't understand the big deal about the start menu. Press the windows key [on W8]( that little key next to the key) and type in the name of a program you want to run. BOOM!!!! there it is, now click on it. Seems pretty damn easy. What am I missing? In all Windows 8 discussions so far, I've read this all the time, and only in defense of W8. Hey, guys, are you aware that this works exactly like that on Win 7 and Vista, too? Even better, you still have your open pro…

I work in a computer lab at a Jr College. We are thinking of going to windows 8. But the notion of touch screens is down right idiotic. Having student bang on our screens. Leaving dirty finger prints. Very unsanitary. It is hard enough to keep the keyboards clean. Now the screens, which you cannot just wipe with a wet rag. The students we get are mostly right out of highschool and we get disabled students. They have enough trouble just logging in, this touch screen menus without touch screens will be impossible. So now you have the screen filled with the "Menu" can cannot see your work just to look at your disk drive? Touch screens are useless. We also teach t…

I have a client with a small domain where I just brought up a Server 2012 Print Server. The printers are mapped via GPP. Most clients are now running Windows 8 with the few remaining ones running Windows 7. One Windows 8 client is having a problem mapping a particular HP LaserJet. All other clients are having no trouble mapping any printer via the GPP. When I try to add the printer via Add a Printer it won't connect to the printer giving a 0x0000007e error. I've looked this up but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on how to correct this error. I was able to map the user to the printer by running the Add a Printer wizard but instead of selecting the printer that appea…

I'm from the Philippines, and I was trying to add a default credit card in the Account Settings. Sadly the only available country is USA and Canada. Hence I cannot make any purchases in the Windows store. I was hoping to make a few magazine subscriptions. I would really appreciate any help regarding this matter. Apart from this, I'm really loving what this new OS has to offer. Thanks in advance. View the full article

Hi Guys, I have upgraded my Lenovo Desktop Pc from windows 7 Pro to Windows 8 Pro which worked without any issue for couple of days. But it all went wrong after downloading and installing the new updates. I restarted the PC and it got stuck on configuring updates on 13%. I waited for half an hour, PC restarted and stuck again on 13%. To try to troubleshoot the issue. I turned it off and then press shift+F8 and did the system restore from advanced option and it worked. I ran Windows update troubleshooter which showed me that problem has been found but its been fixed and the problem was with "potential windows update database error detected 0*80070490". I checked for…

Hello. Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I've discovered my system resets my speaker configuration to Stereo rather than 5.1, seemingly at random. I have a Creative X-Fi card and in Windows XP and 7, speaker configuration was always able to be modified within their Volume Panel app. In Windows 8, however, I have to use the Windows Speaker Setup configuration box to change to 5.1.. so I figure Windows 8 is managing the amount of speakers now. It seems to be doing a terrible job at it, though. What could be causing it to forget the setting? My sound card software is not forgetting any of my sound cards settings in the volume panel, but Windows keeps forgetting the number of…

Hi everyone I recently installed Windows 8 Pro and everything was fine until now. I connected my printer (HP Photosmart C310) to my computer and it told me to install a driver. I did, and then it said that "A fatal error has occured." I think it had something to do with the software not being compatible with Windows 8. Then, it told me to uninstall the software and reboot. So I did. After rebooting, the login screen went strange. The arrow you tap to change users was now two boxes. The Change Language button was also one box, and the power options menu icon was also one box. When I activated the onscreen keyboard, the shift, switch keyboards, and window…

Hi everyone. I cannot add my google account to Windows 8 Mail App, nor to the People app. When I enter the credentials it tries to login but then it says to check if the username and/or password are correct. I am doing copy and paste so I am sure they are correct. The situation is the following: I have a Microsoft account and a Google account Both accounts refer to the same Gmail address: xxxxx@gmail.com I was able to login with the Microsoft account I am not able to connect with the Google account Any ideas? Thanks! View the full article

We are trialing Windows 8 Pro RTM on a few workstations. Upon deleting anything from a network share (running Windows Server 2008 R2 with 'hard' disk quotas) it does not appear to release the disk space - this shows on both the FSRM Console and the drive mapped to the workstation. On the server itself through file explorer, the disk space has been released, so this looks to be a bug(?) with Windows 8 and quota management not updating its quotas. Anyone have any ideas or have the same problem as this kills the idea of deployment across the entire enterprise for us (potentially upsetting 15k+ users). Thanks! Hi there, I recently upgraded to Windows 8 (about a week or two ago) and have had a problem with the way I personalise my computer ever since. When I click "Change PC Settings", the words are very blurry and and completely black so stat I can't select them. Whatever I try and change, from my background to my display avatar, doesn't change. I have tried to "trust my PC" but my old e-mail doesn't work anymore so I have to wait ONE WHOLE MONTH for it to go through. Please tell me I can fix this problem! Thanks, Josh View the full article

I'm working with Windows 8 x64 for a few days now and several times a day, the clock in the taskbar stops working completely. The system clock is running fine, see screenshot. Never had this problem with Windows 7 before. I can't really tell which event triggers this bug, it seems to just happen randomly. My system: Thinkpad T400, 8GB RAM, C2D P8700, Crucial M4 256GB. Hello, I installed a brand new copy of Windows 8 today, and i have tried to copy some files from my Phone to my harddisk. But it frequently fails, the copy speed drops down to 0 bytes per second and nothing gets copied. I copied the same files on another pc flawlessly. So this should be a bug in windows 8. If anyone has a fix for this stupid bug, please let me know. View the full article

Hello, I have discovered, that Windows 7 Pro doesn't support multiple monitor for remote desktop service, as it is featured only for Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise editions. See this article http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Remote-Desktop-Connection-frequently-asked-questions I wonder, if this feature is now supported in Windows 8 Pro or does Remote Desktop work the same way as in Windows 7 Pro ? I need to connect to my computer using Remote Desktop Client and use extended desktop on multiple monitors. However current Windows 7 Pro support only desktop spanning ( /span), which is not that useful. Thanks for your reply. View the full article

Ok, this one's super frustrating. When I do Win -> 'mstsc' -> Enter the first time, a new instance of mstsc.exe is launched. All subsequent times, all this sequence does is change focus to the last instance opened. This behavior is different from Windows 7 where Win -> 'mstsc' -> Enter will always launch a new instance of mstsc.exe. Is this behavior configurable? All I can do right now is the relatively long mouse/keyboard dance or the absurd Menu, Right, Right, Right, Enter sequence. Notice, there's no single letter shortcuts on the context menu. I use mstsc as an example since I use it a lot, but Windows 7 consistently opens new instances for any appl…
