My new, clean install of 32 bit Lucid Lynx Ubuntu 10.04 recognizes all 4

GB of my RAM. Ya can't do that with Windows, folks. 32 bit XP only

recognizes 3.5 GB.

I'd rather BUY more RAM and continue running my Windows 7.

At least I know I'll be able to boot from one day to the next.

If you're running 32 bit Windows 7, it doesn't matter how much RAM you

buy, Windows and the seven dwarfs will only recognize a bit more than

3GB. Also, with Windows (of any flavor), there is *never* a guarantee

that you will be able to boot from one day to the next.

That's two strikes. Care to make it three?

You can see Alias is really quite challenged... thinking xp 32 bit and all.

I'm so embarrassed by the person I block everything by 'alias' , only once

in awhile when someone quotes him do I see he is still having problems in

his life.

Well actually, 32 bit windows does recognize the ram, it just won't be able

to use all of it due to the address space limitation of 32 bit windows. No

place to map the extra ram to, therefore it will go unused.

It can map around 4gb, but some of that will get used by hardware resources,

so yes the amount of " available" ram will be somewhere around 3.25 gb on

average.

Of course, 64 bit windows does not have this limitation and will certainly

make use of more ram.

I run 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium and it makes nice use of my 6gb of

installed ram, and runs very well on my system.

My god you have proven once again to be the biggest fuckin idiot in this

group!!! I bet your eyes are brown too because you are so full of shit! The

only time windows crashes is due to poor installation or poor maintenance.

If you believe any different you are a bigger fuckin idiot than even I

thought.

Even with making $14,000 per week you can't afford a 64bit CPU?

So you must be blowing all of your money on illegal drugs huh?

Figures, you are drug addicted, lying POS asshole loser and a linturd pimp!

Nice combo!

Well if that's all Linfux can do without having to jump through hoops to get

that far - then that must be an improvement on Linfux. *eg*

Now what about actually getting other things to work properly 'out of the

box' without having to troll Usenet to get the answer first.

BTW, if you really want to compare like-for-like (in the *context* [1] of

updated Operating Systems) then 64 bit Windows 7 Will do recognise 4GB and

*MORE* *AND* and run PnP out of the box.

[1] You do *understand* what "context" means don't you? If not, then

look it up boy, look it up!

Yes, you can do that in Windows. In fact, it's quite easy to enable PAE.

Well, the truth is out!

Your much publicized career as a consultant doesn't seem to generate

sufficient for you to up-grade your computer system to 64 bits

although 64 bit processes have been in the marketplace for quite some

time now.

Or, perhaps you are the rare craftsman who works with outmoded and

shoddy tools..... which of course results in shoddy work.

That and the fact it only works with server editions!

Glad it worked for you. Ubuntu sucks... No sound since 8.04 and spotty

network problems with this new version. I loaded Redhat Fedora the

version of Redhat Fedora I'm using is months behind the new Ubuntu and

Fedora is light years better...

Anyone reading this is better off loading windows98 or Windows2000,

you'll get better functionality than any flavor of Ubuntu...

No it will not show the full 4 Gig even using the PAE switch. .You can use the

either the 3GIG switch or the PAE switch it will not get a 32 bit XP showing all of

the 4 GIGS. Now a 64 bit XP will show up to 32gig .

I'd rather use an operating system that has many newsgroups to support

my needs so that I don't have to gate-crash Linux-ubuntu newsgroups

(assuming there are any out there)!

In any case majority of Windows 7 systems these days are on 64 bit

architecture so memory recognition is not a problem.

Really? Then I must be doing something wrong as my XP Pro SP3 shows 4096

MBytes of RAM!

I do know that PAE is dependent on hardware & BIOS capabilities.

Obviously, mine is.

Too bad it doesn't recognize a moron and refuse to install.

You really need 4GB to run Tumblebird and FriedFox?
