DOS is immune to the sluggishness, even Windows DOS (in a box) is
immune. Third party apps also may be immune.
http://www.pcmag.com/ 's HDValet can do massive deletes without causing
it. It has 3 ways to delete-- choose one that doesn't involve the
Recycle Bin!
http://www.karenware.com/ 's PtReplicator (Free) might be able to do
massive copies, (but I've never tried).
