Zone Alarm Blocking

Just got back from a much needed break in Colorado. You are most welcome,
Angel. Hopefully, all your ports will be in stealth mode in the grc test
site. Ideally, the ports will be in stealth mode because of the blocking
within your router thus showing you have blocking on the hardware level which
is preferred imo to software blocking due to the amount of baddies that can
disable or open ports in a software firewall.

What were the results?

The results were the same in both before and after. 4 ports in stealth, the
rest closed and a ping was replied to. Is there a way to set up the ZA
6.1.744, free edition, so a *ping* would not be replied to?

Um, let me supply a bit of info from when I used ZA...

At the GRC site, I had to ALLOW scripting and other to occur when using the
Shields-up scan if I refused the scripting and/or connection, then ALL
ports were stealth [with the settings I used: browser, network, firewall].
Kind of a *catch 22* issue.The allowance of *server* aspects within ZA
directly relate to what is blocked AND how much is allowed. Your browser
settings directly relate to what the browser [itself] allows or supports.
So your ping MIGHT have been allowed because of the configuration of your
computer, browser, OR in ZA, or your actions ON/during the Shields-Up scan
[same for any of the Internet based check tools].

As I remember it said something about my computer allowing the Ping and
then closing. Like you said, a *catch 22*. I'm not going to worry about it.

Right, you likely have ActiveX and scripting, and/or java enabled in your
browser or did so at the site. Ahhh, what browser are you using?
A ping [ICMP 0 and 8] isn't really all that much to worry about, However,
if you're looking for absolute stealth mode, the group can look into some or
your settings if you wish.

This is a clone/image from before, which you just recently installed
correct?
Which does [or did] apparently have a few *holes* in your security, which
has caused some problems for you in the last year or so. If I remember
correctly, you have had difficulties with [and/or>] email, virus, trojan,
hijack, and/or what else?

It is from ATT. The router was not messed with. There is no place to get
into it to *set it up*. Or do you set it up from the computer? Gary helped
me set the ATT router to get DSL. I did not use any of the software. ATT
does not support the 98SE. So to get ATT to help you? No, you are on your
own.

ATT people do not support Win98se. I never use the ATT software, even on XP, as it just loads your
computer with Yahoo crap.

In Network under TCP/IP for your ethernet card, set IP address to Auto. set WINS to DHCP. leave
others at their default.

Start with Client for MS networks. After it works, set it to MS family logon.
