We have two old forest in our network. We started it since Windows Server 2000. Ever since, we have been keeping up with all the major versions 2003, 2008, etc. Our current level is 2016. We are getting ready to jump into Office 365 and one of our domains/forest must be sacrificed. Unfortunately, the one that is going to die is where most of our systems reside (Exchange, SharePoint, SCCM, etc).
Since our current domain functionality is 2016, upgraded since 2000, would it be better to start from a brand new domain? Or our existing should be fine. I guess what we are a little concerned about is security. If we build a brand new forest, it would be built using Server 2019, this way we make sure that all security is a par with 2019. But if we keep our existing one and upgrade to 2019, is there anything that we are missing? If so, is there anything we could do to bring it a par.
Currently we are running BPAs on all of domain controllers and evaluating all of our security warnings and errors. What are some of your thoughts out there.
Thank you very much.
