SyncToy 1.4 will not run in Vista 64

I cannot get Sync Centre to work so I have downloaded SyncToy 1.4.

This works fine on my office XP machine, but after installing, as soon as I
try and run it on my home Vista 64 machine I get the message that SyncToy has
stopped working and it does not load.

I have checked the Net Framework 3.0 in windows programmes

Any idea what the problem is please ?

SyncToy is one of the Windows XP PowerToys, it's not intended for use with
Vista. AFAIK no PowerToys for Vista have been released yet.

That said, I was able to make it work on a Vista 32-bit version, even
though Vista warned me about compatibility problems. I'm guessing the
64-bit version won't do that.

A minor correction - SyncToy 1.4 explicitly supports Vista in fact, Vista
support was the new feature in v1.4, compared to v1.3. See
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/prophoto/synctoy.mspx

I have used Synctoy 1.4 on my 32-bit Vista laptop and it runs great.
However, it doesn't want to run on any of the 64-bit Vista desktops I've
tried it on. I suspect it just doesn't work with 64-bit Vista. I'm not sure
why I haven't taken time to debug down into the problem. The EXE file
refuses to load, it goes straight into the "SyncToy has stopped working"
message box.

The best (only?) support avenue for SyncToy is the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.photos newsgroup (yes , that does say "XP", but I
believe it covers SyncToy on all platforms). The developers are currently
working on SyncToy v2.0 so may be that will fix it (or else, they'd better
be alerted to the 64-bit problem, before they finish 2.0)

To run SyncToy 1.4 on Vista x64:

Install Microsoft Net Monitor 3.0.
Copy the custsat.dll file from

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Network Monitor 3.0

Paste the file into

C:\Users\YourLoginName\AppData\Local\SyncToy

That's it! Happy Syncing.
