Hello,
I am hoping someone here can help us out with this issue. We have Windows Search Service Feature installed on several 2012 R2 terminal servers and we are having constant issues with the index size growing to ridiculous amounts. We have enabled a few settings in Group Policy for the machine (Prevent adding shared folders, Prevent indexing e-mail attachments, prevent indexing public folders) and we have restricted the index to only do Outlook. We have also enabled stopping the index when there is less than 5GB left, which is also not working but I will get to that.
We just had one of our systems have the index grow from 70GB to 330GB in size over the weekend before we killed it and had it restart. There are only 40ish users on the server with 300-400 GB of e-mails on a hosted exchange and less than a million indexed items. Also, on that last incident, the 5GB limit did not work. The system would index a couple dozen items and then stop saying insufficient disk space. It kept going until I logged in with 1.6GB free on the drive.
I am hoping someone can recommend some settings or a fix that will keep the index from blowing up like this.
Thank you,
Todd Heywood
