Don't know what rules you are referring to, but I live in a place where there
is no DST!

Ya' know, health is better than health care.
Then again, you have the alternative also. :)

Go Rockies!!!!
Damn, it really is over, isn't it???
Time for the Meds.
PS: I allready changed the clock twice to take care of the Springtime
(spring forward) change also.
That's called 'planning ahead'.

Amazingly enough, there have been very few posts in any of "my" MS
newsgroups since last Sunday. (And let's keep in mind that while MS NGs may
be Americentric, they are not USA-specific.)

Could it be because DST does not change until this Sunday? Or have I missed
something here?

This is the first year that DST ends the first weekend in November. It
used to end the last weekend in October.

So this past Sunday, many folks (mostly XP users) noticed DST ended
prematurely since they didn't have the correct patch (or there was a
misconfiguration).

I agree. Everyone either got it right back then or must wait till 2:00
AM to find out otherwise. We must all be patient, especially 98 Guy!

It was too early to see any complaints! Mine has worked nicely & gone
back an hour on today's boot, owing to the TZEdit run I did back then!
(Looks like I may ultimately have run Terhune's fix over that as well.)

Windows ME machine went back 2 hours in the last month. Must've hit the original
daylight point and hit the patch a week later.

Once the patch is instituted, the old date no longer is in effect.
However, if that old date passed before the patch was instituted, I
guess a machine could revert twice. Otherwise, the more likely cause of
losing two hours would be two operating systems each doing it one after
the other in a dual boot system. I know I say a warning about that
somewhere recently-- but can quite locate where!

I got a clock error on my Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) laptop that
caused a Blue Screen of Death. I configured it so I would be able to see all
the errors because that is the way I like it. Anyway, Microsoft Windows
Vista searched for a solution and said I needed to update the BIOS so I
updated the BIOS and the computer seems okay now. It seems a drastic fix for
a time error. <grin>

This had to do with the DST time change? I guess it wanted your
permission to adjust the BIOS clock-- which, you know, good old Win98
will just go ahead & do it!

Exactly. I cannot yet reccomend Vista to anyone and suggest users stick with
XP until at least the first Vista Service Pack is released. I know if I
posted this in a Vista newsgroup then many users would be up in arms about
how great Vista is. It is great in terms of security but still lacks in
backwards compatibility and general useability in terms of not having some
email not working fully and certain websites do not want to cooperate with
Vista fully. My favorite operating system remains 98 Second Edition and XP
after that and then Vista. I am looking forward to having my desktop up and
running again soon, hopefully and then installing Ubuntu Linux on it. I also
hope to try out Apple next year and see how well I like Mac OS 10.5, the new
Leopard operating system compared to Windows and Linux.

Yea. That's pretty nasty to get a BSOD over the time change! It worked
perfectly well for us in Win98-- or 98 Guy would have heard complaints
by now!

I suppose the survivors may be happier with the next release, as you
suggested.

I am not yet familiar with Apple or Linux but the plan is to understand them
better in the future. Linux sounds especially great with a lot of potential
and having Mozilla Firefox as your browser is nice since it works in Windows,
Linux and Apple. It is also fairly secure especially compared to Internet
Explorer. I tried Opera but I just did not like it as much as Firefox. My
dad is especially using Firefox to its full potential with plug-ins and
extensions. My focus right now is on my computer class and trying to
understand computers more. Sometimes, I think that you do not give yourself
enough credit, PCR because you are a great asset to the Windows 98 General
Newsgroup.
