1. Yes, sometimes - if not in plain text.
2. Usually not.

For more information about viruses and staying safe, do some reading at

1. If I block HTML graphics, does that give me only plain text and prevent
email virus if I don't open attachments?
2. If I block graphics and don't open attachments, will that prevent email
virus? If usually not, what would prevent it 100% other than to not use
email?

No. Refer to the Help function of your email program for using plain
text only.

To prevent 100% never getting a virus, don't ever connect that machine
to the Internet. Don't ever put a strange USB thumbdrive, floppy disk,
or data on it.

Yes it would, since most common entry of this guys are via attachments,
links within an email and very seldom embedded links within a picture file
which would divert you directly to some site.

verify first with your friend or so relative if they did sent an e-mail with
those before opening one with windows mail ( vista ), hotmail.com or live
mail ( www.windowslive.com ) pretty much its auto blocked ( pictures and
attachment ) it would ask you first to confirm to view it, while you can
still read the main body of the letter.

thanks

no... follow malke's instructions and refer to the help function of your
email client to set it to plain text only... blocking graphics and
attachments doesn't make it plain text, you have to make sure that it is
not rendering html *at all* (to ensure that it's not parsing any scripts
found in the html email)...
