Interesting article. This was the first real deployment (i.e. not a pilot program) of the XO laptop. Apparently over 600,000 XO laptops were already purchased by governments and charitable organizations, including 50,000 by billionaire Carlos Slim for Mexican children. There is also the Give One Get One program, which has also been wildly successful.
