It's *extremely* easy to turn off that announcement. Yes, it's
annoying and I turned it off here the first day I got it.

You can set update to silent.

Don't know, AVG is not allowed to update automatically nor is anything
else on my computer.

I run manual scans, I don't allow scheduled scans with either.

when I removed avast and installed avg there was a GREAT difference in system responsiveness.
even WM runs and and is available instantly instead of having to wait.
and yeah I know turn of email scanning.
avast was good, but as soon as avg was available 64 bit FREE, I jumped on it.

Right click AVG desktop icon>click properties>compatibility>click privilege
than check 'run this program as an administrator>apply>ok.Hope that
