Allowing more than 2 connections to 2003 R2 box

Mike

Hi

I am currently allowing external users to run applications remotely on a 2k3
r2 server via VPN and RDP.

The 2 users rule is becoming a problem as there are more people who need to
connect than that.

The applications that are used (I have been advised by the developers) do
not and are not ever likely to be compatibly with application mode.

Is it possible to extend the amount of people who are able to connect to the
TS in admin mode by purchasing licenses for them?

Many Thanks

Hello Mike,

You have to change from Remote Administration mode to Application mode and
then you have to buy Terminal server licenses for every user logging on to
the TS. Additional you have to install the Terminal Services License server,
which will contro the access. You must have the TS licenses. By default the
server runs 120 days without licenses and then stops working.

Yes, be sure to test this thoroughly, with multiple concurrent
users connections, since you wrote that "the applications do not
and are not ever likely to be compatibly with application mode".

I might also be good to know that Terminal Services (which implies
Application mode, as it was called in W2K) must be installed
*before* you install any user applications. So you cannot install
it on your existing server without first uninstalling all
applications.
