F drive missing after windows 8 update

Hi, my computer's f drive disappeared after I updated from windows 7 to windows 8. I was able to find the f drive shortcut under favourites then recent places. However the shortcut is only 1kb in size. Any idea on how to restore my f drive to its original state with all my files inside? I already tried using disk management but it does not work. So i suspect its a user or network problem which I don't know how to fix. Originally the f drive was working fine under windows 7, but once the automatic update to windows 8 and when I tried plugging in my Iphone cable to sync, the f drive can no longer be found. Please help.
