PC upgraded automatically - and now all my pictures, videas and some word files have disappeared

My computer just went through a major upgrade process. When it had finished, I noticed the picture I had as my desktop had disappeared. I went to replace it as desktop picture and it and all my other pictures (several hundred of them) have disappeared. Please explain. Some of the pictures haven't been printed yet and they have great sentimental value.

I know have backed up some, but not all. What have you done with my pictures.
