restore Windows 10

A while back small yellow boxes began to appear all over my computer screen. I turned it off and then back on many times but it continued to happen. I was advised to take everything off my machine onto an external drive. It appears as I keep getting a message from you that I only have Windows 8 and should update to Windows 10. A friend who is quite knowledgeable came and got my computer going again but I didn't realise Windows 10 was missing until your message started to appear on my screen.

 

I am on a pension and to pay for an upgrade is quite expensive seeing I already Windows 10 and have had it for some time. Is there some way Windows 10 can be restored to my machine or would it be somewhere in the system?
