Win 8.1 black screen, start apps missing,

I constantly (regulary) seem to lose my desktop items and end up with a black start screen after signing in. When searching with my admin "log in" I find all shortcuts apsp in a directory window.old.? I am using a hp laptop, Win 8.1

 

Can I copy them to the new directory or simply restore the new created one with the old?

 

There must be an easier way than a refresh. Every time I loose all my non windows products. It takes me a couple of days to get them all installed again. The system file checker seem not to help either

 

I am very frustrated using windows and worry the next update will set me back again.

 

Any help will be welcome.
