Not able to install windows update on windows 8 pc... at restart stage it fails on 12%

I wanted to update my pc to windows 8.1 from windows 8

 

 

when I visited windows store and clicked on windows 8.1, it suggested me to first install windows updates on current system...

 

 

I checked for updates and downloaded and installed , but at restart stage the process stopped on 12%. then it attempted several times but couldn't complete

 

 

then it started reverting the changes and couldn't do it too

 

 

I had to reset my pc ...

 

 

what should I do

 

(my windows installer is on so tell me other solution)
