My computer doesn't recognise my satnav when plugged in for updates.

I am trying to load updates onto my Garmin satnav.

I have downloaded Garmin Express, going to add device, I am plugging it into a USB port. The satnav recognises that is connected but my laptop doesn't. Tried different USB ports and different leads, uninstalled Garmin Express and reloaded it. Satnav is fully charged. Tried other devices on the USB ports, which work. Any ideas? Thanks
