Too short of time less than a minute before password required to unlock screen on computer PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

how do i change amount of time before password must be retyped before computer requires being unlocked please i am novice and would appreciate help with this very aggravating cant even turn around before password required again. Please if possible give me step by step instructions i am disabled and the computer is my only enjoyment but like i said very aggravating to have to put password every minute or less. Thank You for the help in advance I would like to even remove password if not to hard i live alone and no longer have children around.
