Windows 8 Pro to 8.1 or 10 possibly, please help.

Hello guys, I have windows 8 pro installed at the moment and I need 8.1 or 10 to install Visual Studio.

I couldn't see the update to 8.1 or 10 in windows store for some reasons and Im scared to install them from ISO, I need help and clarification if i will lose my files if i upgrade to windows 8.1 or 10 through ISO download.

My windows is activated, but I lost my key and from a program I managed to get it back, but I read in some forums that sometimes they are used and don't work so please somebody explain it to me as much as they can am I safe to go with upgrade to 8.1 or 10 from windows 8 pro.

Edit: Also I read from some articles in google, that it's only safe to upgrade to windows 10 from windows 8.1 which i can't go to without ISO because I can't see the update window in Windows Store so I'm really confused and need help.
