External Hard Disk/Flash Drive Error

Hello, please i need help.

 

 

Recently, i inserted my flash drive into my laptop and found that all the folders appeared as short cuts, so i could not open them.

 

 

Same thing happened when i inserted my external hard disk.

 

 

I reformatted my laptop and inserted my flash drive again.

 

But while the folders still appeared as short cuts, an error message popped up saying:

 

 

 

File system error

 

(-2147219195)

 

 

Please what do i do? The documents/information in my external hard disk are very important to me. How do i rectify the error and start saying my folders as folders and nit short cuts anymore?
