stuck in preparing automatic repair'

I have a Lenovo U510 ideapad laptop. It is stuck in preparing automatic repair. I didn't recently add anything, but it did run out of battery. I can't get past this. I don't have the CD. I tried to create a boot disk (usb) from another computer but it didn't work. How can I get this thing to boot up, or get some diagnostics run? Nothing I'm finding online seems to work. The boot screens from F11 don't have the same options shown elsewhere. Any way to get to safe mode. Again, all the online stuff starts from a working computer. Any help is greatly appreciated.
