Activation of guest 2016 std on 2016 std hyper-v host

My understanding is that 2016 standard license gives rights to run 2 copies of server 2016 (std or essentials) in Hyper-V VMs, and that this includes the licenses for the 2 guest 2016 server (std or essentials) VMs.

 

Great. There's a thousand things I can do with this. Except I can't activate it.

 

 

Wasted a few hours messing with AVMA activation.... only to find out that this is only supported by Datacenter, not standard.

 

So, how do i activate these 2 2016 std VMs? What key to use? I see people saying to use KMS or MAK... but that's for if you have volume licensing right? I don't have KMS or MAK keys to use. I've also seen people say to use the same license as the host, but this doesn't work either, as I get 0xc004c008 "this key has already been used".
