Laptop with pre-installed windows 8 asking for product key on reinstall

My laptop came pre-installed with windows 8 but was wiped because of virus issues and upon trying to reinstall windows 8 it's asking for a product key but there isn't one printed on the laptop anywhere. I was using a usb with a windows 8.1 iso downloaded from microsoft to reinstall because I don't have a recovery disk
