How can I find the free Windows 8.1 patch for my Windows 8? I don't see it in the MS Windows store

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite c55 laptop. Windows 8 is this computer's factory default operating system. I'd like to update my system to the level of Windows 8.1, and I've heard that there's a free patch available from Microsoft that will enable me to do this. I have heard that this patch is found in the MS Windows store.

However, when I went into my computer's MS Windows store, I could not find any such upgrade patch. Can anyone give some feedback about this?

In other words, can anyone tell me how to find a free Windows 8.1 upgrade patch for my computer?
