Outlook - lost all emails and cannot receive

My friend had an outlook icon on his desktop that would take him straight to his web based emails and he never needed to sign in.

 

 

Through deleting documents to free up space on his hard drive to download a new hardware system, he lost the icon and forgot his password.

 

I helped him retrieve his password and open his email on the internet however, there are zero emails showing up (other than the welcome email from outlook dating back to 2014), he is able to send emails but NOT receive any emails. I went into the outlook mail settings and updated his password however, it keeps saying there is an error and files not found. Did he have his emails on an outlook document thats been deleted?

 

 

Its as if his outlook account has never been used, it’s so bizarre!

 

 

Can anyone share with me if there is any way of rectifying this issue? He just wants to he able to send and receive emails but it would be handy to get the icon back and his previous emails.
