BCD file is missing some required information

I am using a Lenovo G50-70. I just installed two updates after not using my laptop for a while, and now upon starting it, I am getting a blue screen with the following text:

 

"Recover

 

Your PC needs to be repaired

 

The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information.

 

File: \BCD

 

Error code: 0xc0000034

 

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system adminastrator or PC manufacturer.

 

Press ESC for UEFI Firmware Settings"

 

 

The only button I've found that will do anything is esc, which predictably takes me to UEFI Firmware Settings. The thing is, I have no idea what to do from there. I believe I am running Windows 8, but I cannot check as all I can access is UEFI firmware settings.

 

 

What should I do? I can enable USB Boot from UEFI Firmware Settings, but I have no repair software or anything like that available.
