Internal hard drive not connected to my Laptop.

I have a problem with my laptop.

My internal hard drive seems to be separated from my laptop. I can access stored files in the internal hard drive but I can't store new files in the laptop unless I store directly in the internal hard drive. By this, if I save a document or set my desktop background with a picture. On restarting my laptop I won't find the saved document and the saved background would not remain; the background would return to default.

What should I do to connect the internal memory to the laptop so that what is saved in the laptop is seen even after I restart my laptop?

Please, I urgently need assistance.

Thanks.

Bona.
