My Microsoft password is not working on other devices

Hi,

 

I have 2 Windows devices (one Windows 8 and one Windows 10) and I am having regular problems with the Windows 8 laptop. I have a password for my Microsoft Account which works prefectly on the Windows 10 device but is regualrly rejected by the Windows 8 device. The odd thing has been that if I go back through all of the recent passwords that have worked on the Win8, sometimes one of them will work!

 

BUT at the moment I am locked out of the Win8 device. It will not accept any password for my username (nor my wife's password for her username either). Both devices have Avast! security.

 

I have reset the password, for the umpteenth time, to ensure a level plying field, but I am still locked out and none of the present or past passwords have any effect other then being told that they are incorrect; including the latest which works fine elsewhere!!

 

Am I being steered towards a "newer/better" system!
