Windows 7 & 8 Audio Noise

I have just upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 and am seeing the same noise problem when I attempt to play something with the Windows Media Player.

For Windows 7 someone gave a fix for the repeating noise bursts, but I don't know how to fix Windows 8.

Playing from a CD or from Real Player Library does not show the noise bursts?
