How do I enable the local admin account in Windows 8 to use common applications?

I recently downloaded the Window Pro update to my Windows 7 laptop. I was not aware that Windows 8 would lock down my account. I am the only user of this computer so I never created a separate user account. Now when I attempt to open IE or many other applications,

such as the 'Store', I get the 'Application Can't Open---Store can't be opened using 'built-in administrator account try logging on with a different account'.

Well that would be fine except all my last two years of work are not available to any other account. Windows 8 turned my user account into a restricted admin.

Is there a way to change this set of restrictions? Can I enable this account to have access like before?
