Automatic Restore Points in Windows 8

It seems to be common knowledge (and hundreds of forum posts) that Windows 8 will not create automatic restore points - particularly prior to update installation.

 

Is anyone at MS actively working on this issue or do we have the typical MS stonewall because either no one is paying attention or more probably because they do not know how to fix it?

 

My solution for now is to recommend that nobody set their machine for automatic update installation but this is indeed a sorry state of affairs.
