Do I need to shut down windows 8?

Greetings,

I have just migrated to Windows 8 on my home computer. I notice that after a little while the computer basically shuts itself down. When I press the power button, it comes up within seconds. I assume its hibernating. So Im wondering do I really need to ever

shut down the machine manually as I always used to do or just leave it and let it go to sleep all the time? (Obviously I have to restart when certain software is installed).
