So, I have had this note coming up for a couple of weeks. Not sure why I am getting it and I cannot just re-enter my legitimate code that is printed on a factory sticker on the sid eof my box. Each time I go to fix it, I redownload the exe, stater the install and it ends up with the same error: Update installation failed. Error information - 0xC8000247 Some research gives me absolutely nothing to go on other than some noise about not having a anti-virus installed or having an infection. Run Norton religiously and do full scans regularly. Anything anyone can chip in so I can get this repaired, I would appreciate it. I went ahead and grabbed the MGSDiag.exe and ran it: Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):-----------------------------------------Windows Validation Data--> Validation Code: 0x8004FE21Cached Online Validation Code: 0x0Windows Product Key: *****-*****-QCPVQ-KHRB8-RMV82Windows Product Key Hash: +Rj3N34NLM2JqoBO/OzgzTZXgbY=Windows Product ID: 00359-OEM-8992687-00095Windows Product ID Type: 2Windows License Type: OEM SLPWindows OS version: 6.1.7601.2.00010300.1.0.003ID: {3CDC261C-ED3A-4B5B-B50A-28FB895ECFCC}(3)Is Admin: YesTestCab: 0x0LegitcheckControl ActiveX: N/A, hr = 0x80070002Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002Product Name: Windows 7 Home PremiumArchitecture: 0x00000009Build lab: 7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030TTS Error: Validation Diagnostic: Resolution Status: N/A Vista WgaER Data-->ThreatID(s): N/A, hr = 0x80070002Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Windows XP Notifications Data-->Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002File Exists: NoVersion: N/A, hr = 0x80070002WgaTray.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002WgaLogon.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGA Notifications Data-->Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002OGAExec.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002OGAAddin.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGA Data-->Office Status: 100 GenuineMicrosoft Office Professional Plus 2007 - I have a new Win 8 laptop with a GPT disk. In addition to the EFI and two recovery partitions, there is a large C and a large D partiotion. I would like to shrink one or both of these and make another partition, before or after D. What tools can I use to do this? The current setup is 300 mb EFI, 600 mb recovery, 184 gb C, 250 gb D, and 20 gb recovery partitions. This is a 500 gb drive. I have been told that if I shrink the C and D the recovery partiotions may be damaged and the disk wil be lost. I did a system image with Acronis True Image 2013 (older versions will not handle GPT disks) as well as Windows system and recovery disks but I really don't want to crash the system. any suggestions? I want to upgrade my laptop from win xp pro sp2 to win 8 pro. I have attempted to do this online and am told the upgrade is not supported. I assume thlis is because I need to get to win xp pro sp3. However, when I attempt to run Windows Update to see what updates are outstanding, I get the message that I cannot go to that web page with error 0x80240036. In other words I cannot update my xp pro beyond where it currently is, sp2. View this thread

HELP Please. I have Vista Home Premium SP2. I am trying to install the "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2742597)". I have tried every technical solution posted in the Knowledge Base, including the complete deletion and reinstallation of .NET, I've tried: "Method 1: Fix MSI software update registration corruption issues". "Method 2: Repair the .NET Framework" which includes the ".NET Framework Cleanup Tool" aka "dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip". "System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB947821) [November 2012]" I've even tried every suggestion from the first 15 pages of this community post. I am able to install every update that comes across except this one. Biggest question is, if I have all the latest .NET, do I really need this? If so, any other suggestions for me to try? When you go to start and go in to uninstall programs in a Windows 7 Home Premium Toshiba Satellite T115D-S1120 and uninstall old update programs out of the computer with Windows 7 is it removed from the Hard Drive, or is there more that you have to do to remove it from your Hard Drive? I have read that you need to download a Windows 7 update remover tool to remove it from your Hard Drive is this true? Also, by doing this will your computer become faster? View this thread

I ran Microsoft Fix It because 3 updates failed to install correctly and it also wiped my update history clean. On a previous post I mentioned everything is working, but maybe I may have jumped the gun because now i'm not getting any new updates at all!( with the exception of windows defender) Any ideas? Thanks. View this thread

I have been trying to update my laptop with the above update but consistently get a failure notification. The update downloads and looks as if it is installing but then the error message comes up (code 80073718). I select the option 'get help with this error' which takes me to troubleshooting the updater ( I ran it as administrator). The troubleshooter found an error and repaired it so I tried to update again but yet again got the same error code and the update is still not installed. I have checked my internet connection in case something was interrupted but the connection is fine, I have tried both wifi and Ethernet. I have searched the Microsoft pages but can't find anything about this error. I installed windows 8 as an upgrade to Vista a couple of weeks ago. View this thread

I set up my wallpaper with a photo which was fine for a while, always on my desktop and I could go straight to it, suddenly a gremlin came and now I have a blue windows screen with an administrators key in the center which I have to click before I go to my desk top. It does not accept a double click to give me an option to get rid of it, so I redid my photo theme, but it is still the same. Thanks, it is annoying to have to go through an extra step just to see my desktop. View the thread

My OS Win 7x64 . With so much malware presence nowadays is it wise to not keep logged in as an Administrator and just have a standard use account when just doing routine searches and web surfing. And if so, what procedures would you recommend. Thanks for any info and/or advice View the thread

I have tried a new USB cable, used a different usb port, up dated my printer driver & did a check for up dates to my PC. Nothing is getting my printer back. Can anyone help? View this thread

Microsoft Security Essentials is not updating. This problem began Jan 21. I have tried updating MSSE using the update feature and Windows Update. Windows Update shows no update available. MSSE update feature shows no update for two days and encourages a search for updates which does not happen. View the thread

My Windows 7 desktop has 239 GB of files of which 174 GB are in the Users category and 69.6 GB are in my Desktop which contains mostly duplicate files. I didn't understand the questionable duplication which the Desktop imposes until I realized that the reason I couldn't find recent files was because they were not saved in the right directory of the same name. Why does Microsoft not fully explain the difference between My Documents and Desktop Documents. What a total waste of time managing my files!!!!! Bruce Johnson . View the thread

Hi, I have a problem updating Windows 7 and Office 2010. I'm running the 32 bit version of Windows 7. I only have IE installed as a browser with silverlight enabled and only MS firewall/ default security software installed. I have not installed any 3rd party softwear, firewalls or anti virus. I have tried a number of the solutions previously posted on the site, None of which have worked. Here's what I've done so far: This was a clean install of both Windows 7 and Office 2010. I installed windows 7 first. All updates for Windows 7 installed until I received a message that no more updates were available. I then installed Office 2010, selecting the option to update other Microsoft products on the updater. SP 1 for office was installed and then I received the error message above. I have tried a fresh install again. After installing updates and then selecting update other microsoft products the updater says Most recent check for updates: never Updates were installed: never You receive updates: For Windows and other products from Microsoft Update Again with the error message in the heading. There seems to be a number of posts about this with different suggestions. Here's what I've tried 1. Windows update troubleshooter says that it repaired problems (update databases error Ox8007005 windows update components repaired) here's a copy of the output report... Proxy :Last Installed Update :Update for Windows 7 (KB2545698),01/21/2013 15:59:52Last Displayed Error :2013-01-21 17:30:38:237 892 778 AU # WARNING: Search callback failed, result = 0x8024402FLanguage settings :en-USbits : Runningwuauserv : RunningWORKGROUP :WORKGROUPWindows Update Agent Version :7.6.7600.256Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP: 1CPU Type : x64 OS Architecture :32-bitRES_GenWUError : Bits is stoppedRES_GenWUError : wuauserv is stoppedRES_GenWUError : CryptSvc is stoppedRES_GENWUError : : CryptSvc RunningRES_GENWUError : : bits RunningRES_GENWUError : : wuauserv Running I haven't posted the windows update notepad output due to its length. 2. Windows update Fix it. I've run this in both default and aggressive modes, and the tool says I have no problems requiring fixing. 3. I ran services.msc and updated the Windows Update file and Background Intelligent Transfer Service to "automatic" and selected start and apply 4. I downloaded a fresh copy of Java direct from the Java website 5. I ran the fixit tool again. Nothing so far has worked. Instinct tells me that the issue lies with Offioce 2010 rather than Windows 7, but I only have the intial install, plus the change in update status when Office is included as an option to base this on. I'd appreciate your guidance and help- please keep information and instructions simple as I'm not a computer techie. many thanks View this thread
