This computer ran Vista for a short while before being upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. Recently a problem occurred which couldn't be fixed by the repair disc. I used the disc image created when I installed Windows 7 and a message illegal copy has now appeared. The registration period has expired, of course, what do I do? View the thread

Just noticed that I no longer have sound. All devices say they are working properly. Found that in audio devices, Realtek HDMI Output (ATI HDMI Audio) &quotnot plugged in&quot. Not sure what that is, but have not changed any settings or added any hardware. How do I get sound back? View this thread

Hello. I recently bought a Windows 8 Pro copy. I decided to use it because I used windows 8 pre-release and liked it. Now here is the problem. As on the pre-release version I didn't experience any crash when I installed W8 Pro I got first crash. I installed it again with. It turned on everything was fine until i reset it. It didn't start for a second time and I was forced to refresh the system and loose all my apps. After I launched fresh system it worked only for 1 day and then crashed again, now even without possibility to refresh it. As I'm trying to launch it everything I have is black screen and nothing more even if I'll wait longer than 20 minutes. I hope you'll be able to get help. Thanks from above. View the full article

Every time I try to print a picture from Windows live photo gallery or windows photo gallery or microsoft picture manager or from anywhere! a little box appears with a white X in a red circle that says "The following error occured while trying to print your picture:" and then there is no error listed! and thebox just keeps duplicating itself over and over and over and the whole thing will not let me out of it!!! I click on the X or the cancel and it just keeps beeping at me and duplicating itself over and over! i have to go to task manager to get out of it and end task Help!I'm on a Windows Vista home premium. Hi when i search for updates i get this error (80073712) I also can turn on the windows security service center as it says the windows security center service couldnt be started. When i go to turn on or off windows features it doesnt display any features. and windows firewall shows it isnt on the recommended settings but when i click update your firewall settings it says error cant change some of your settings. I wouldnt like to do a clean install and my system restore for some reason only goes up to the start of this year which wouldnt solve the problem. Thanks for your help! View this thread

Well, when i move the mouse to botton left or hit the Windows Key + X combination, i get a menu with all the important items like Task Manager, Control Panel and others. However, if i click on any of these, i have like 10 seconds or more delay before i get the clicked item's window is opened. If i access any of these items from other locations, like apps search, windows get opened at once. Also, i noticed that if i right mouse click on a file to get a popup list of actions, it also take some time before i get the list to see. It is very strange, in Windows 7 I didn't have such thing. I was working on my laptop(Lenovo X201 tablet) when my windows 8 prompted that it will restart in 15 mins to install updates. I came back after an hour and the start up is stuck at &quotPlease wait&quot. It remained that way for about 12 hrs, after which I realized that something is wrong. (I am a student and this copy of windows 8 is downloaded from MSDNAA.) None of these work: 1. Refresh : Says that an error occured (Doesnt specify what error) 2. System Restore: No restore points available 3. Reset : Says that an error occured (Doesnt specify what error) 4. Automatic repair : Says, Couldnt repair your PC. 5. Safe mode: Gets stuck at &quotPlease wait&quot 6. Disabling WiFi : Doesnt help 7. I scanned my HDD multiple times and it found no disk errors I then took out my laptop HDD, placed it in a external USB enclosure and connected to my desktop. I then did the following, but none of these work either: 1. Renaming the Avast antivirus folder in Program files, just in case avast was the culprit. 2. Replaced the registry files from System32/config/regbackup to config to load old registry. 3. Loaded the registry, from my laptop HDD to desktop registry, to disable the NLA service and found that it was already disabled. 4. Also renamed the fingerprint reader software folder so that the service doesnt start. I only have an ISO of the Windows 8 and my laptop doesnt have an optical drive. I prefer not to format my whole disk or buy a USB optical drive. Can anyone suggest any kind of tweak to repair my windows or in worst case reinstalling windows onto my laptop HDD while being connected through USB enclosure? View the full article

Following upgrading to Windows 8 - Office 2007 - Spell check will not work even though I change the language settings. UK version of office. When I try to speck check on UK language setting it come up with this message. (Cannot find proofing tools for English United Kingdom. If you have the proofing tools try installing them or reinstalling them. Contact your local reseller to obtain proofing tools. For more information contact the Microsoft web site.) At first I received an error code 80070002 and I checked for a possible answer here on support, received a detailed process from stopping updates and deleting temporary files to restarting updates....did it all but when I do updates again the KB2310138 update has downloaded but it will not install. All .NET Framework updates are failing for me (including for 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0). All frameworks are installed, and I have tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling them). I can't apply any recent security updates for these (see long list below). Other updates such as for IE-8 and Win XP install OK. With 20 hours wasted out of my weekend -- very frustrated. As as see many, many ohters have been with .Net update problems -- there seems to be more on the web about this than any other Windows problems, and it seems most were never resolved. End of rant. What can I do to get the following KBs installed, my computer safe and (ha!) my lost time resturned by Microsoft? The common installer report is: "KBxxxxxxx does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer." Very cryptic and not at all helpful. Digging on internet I found that it's possibile trough custom installation (at least from xp to win7) but I'm trying to understand if it's possibile also for win8. Some months ago I've upgraded a PC to win8 and I obtained a license for 29,99$, but I didn't found how many computer I can activate with that key...if I can't use that serial, can I use the win8 upgrade assistant to migrate from win7 32-bit to win8 64-bi? with other 29,99$? Hi, I have a brand new Lenovo Ideapad and have been having issues with Sleep. If I let the laptop go to sleep or hibernate it can't wake up again. Most of the time the screen just stays black and nothing happens so the only thing I can do is hold the power button to turn off and then back on. I have Windows Vista. In as effort to download Windows Live Mail, I tried to install Windows Live Essentials, however was advised I needed to install Windows Platform Update. When I clicked on Windows Update, it produced a box which asked me to check for updates. I clicked on it and the following error message appeared &quotWindows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart the computer&quot. I can no longer use Windows Update to keep any of my computers up-to-date. Windows Update troubleshooter claims to have fixed the problem on the desktop, but it persists. According to what I hve been able to find on the Microsoft websites, this error indicates that the currently downloading update file terminated prior to completion. I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop, Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) on my ASUS notebook, and Windows 7 Starter in my Lenovo netbook. None of them will update using Wundows update. Might this be an ISP-related issue? I can surf the web reasonably well most of the time. I am forced to use 3G or HSDPA in this locality. Is there a manual way to download and install update files? I downloaded WinZip utilities suite and have since deleted it, I had problems after running that program. I was having a slow computer and have cleaned the files from the drive. The sound driver has been checked..all ok from windows vista. No speaker sound or headphones, but sound card says all ok. Much thanks for your help. Mike View this thread
