Only recently I realised that I do not have Windows Media Player on this pc, which limits me from using a lot of options on my smart tv. I did try installing it, but everytime I do, I get a message saying that it is not compatible with my computer, when I chose the right options for windows 7 64-bit. View the thread

When several windows are open on taskbar, unable to close 'original' or extreme left window. Usually end up closing down to get rid of open window and starting over. Must be a better way. View this thread

my computer is saying : you maybe a victim of software counterfeiting,, then: this copy of windows did not pass genuine windows validation . its always on the screen with a blue star icon in bottom right, it was a genuine copy of windows and ive just got broadband before xmas if anyone can help or have any ideas would be greatful . thanks tonyQ View this thread

Hello all. I am running Windows 8 on a new computer. For years I have maintained a simple text file where I store all of my user names and passwords. I use Notepad to open and make additions/changes. The first time I changed and tried to save the file under Win8, instead of just saving it, it brought up the &quotSave As&quot dialog box and aked what name to save it as. I clicked &quotSave&quot to save it as the original name and it told me the file already existed did I want to replace it. I clicked yes. I then got a dialog box saying &quotAccess Denied&quot, nothing else, no explaination. I checked the Secutity properties of the file and I have &quotFull Control&quot both as Administrator and User. I keep getting that windows update symbel for the last 5 days. Update KB 276562-2393802-2724197 -windows vista KB 2679255. (total of 55kb). The installed update log says that these have been updated for the last 4 days. However, the update at close still shows and the sign still is in the bottom tray. How do I stop this madness? Hardware: Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop OS: Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2 Problem: Windows Update won't download the updates. The Windows Update window opens, it tells me I have 5 important updates and 5 optional updates, I click 'install updates' and the download process seems to start. The problem is that even though the activity bar shows has the green wave moving across it, the download never actually starts. The progress reports 0 KB and 0 Percent, and then just cycles forevers, eventually an Error Window pops up listing error code 80070570. I Googled than and located a Microsoft Fix It app for identifying and resolving problems with Windows Update, that I ran but still no joy. Please advise. Thanks much. Mark View this thread

For some reason KB2736416 will not install after it is downloaded. Also, McAfee Internet Security quit working after it tried to update (at about the same time). I contacted one of their techs and he finally said there was a problem with NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and to contact MS for help. I get error code 641 when the installation of KB2736416 fails. Also I downloaded an update yesterday for windows Defender that installed successfully. I was also running IOLO System Mechanic and it has been telling me that it is repairing hard drive errors for quite a while. Any help would be appreciated. View this thread

When trying to open some pdf files in Windows Reader I get an error 'can't open this file. There's a problem with the file format' - these files open fine with Adobe reader - which I don't really want to have if I don't need to. Is this a compatibility issue that hasn't been properly addressed in Windows 8?  View the full article

Hi I have 2 accounts one administrator account (I have forgot password) and a standard user account. I have forgot the admin password so I can't download any programs from internet or make any system changes.How do I recover the administration password? I originally had Windows 7 Home Premium but I upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. Then I used System Restore to restore to before I upgraded. Now I'm at Windows 7 Home Premium again. I use a fingerprint reader to login to windows 8. If I lock the desktop it shows a screen with an avatar, my name and &quotLocked&quot. If I click the avatar i wind up logged in and back at my desktop- i don't have to enter my password or scan my finger. Another user on this laptop doesn't use the fingerprint reader to login and when she locks she gets a similar &quotLocked&quot screen but has to enter her password to get back in. Any ideas?
