My problem is that Windows 8 cuts off part of the the top and bottom of the display on the screen. I've looked for display settings to change things. I can't find anything. More detail: First, this is really easy for me to see because I use two computers with a KVM switch. One is running Windows 8 and the other is running Windows 7. The Windows 8 computer was upgraded from Windows 7. When the Windows 8 computer was running Windows 7, everything worked fine and no hardware was changed! Since it has been upgraded (... and ... I think that using the term "upgrade" for what has happened to that poor machine is an injustice and a lie ...) the image is fuzzier and the very top and bottom of the display is cut off. There is just enough visible so I can still click the icons, but it certainly looks bad. How can I fix this so I can see the entire image in Windows 8? ------------------------------------------------ I'm writing this message on the Windows 7 machine because WINDOWS 8 SUCKS! S-U-C-K-S!!!! Worst OS since Windows Me! (And, in spite of some negative comments it received, I liked Windows Vista and always defended it when students in my classes attacked it.) For several days now, when I start my system in the morning ... YES! I insist on shutting down at night. I think Microsoft is TOTALLY WRONG in making it so HARD to shut down Windows 8 relative to Windows 7. The method I use is to go to Settings > Power > Shutdown. Wait for the monitor to turn off. Then press and hold the power button on the PC which initiates a hardware shutdown. ... the system does a "Scanning and Repairing Drive" ... Which takes five minutes or so but has always completed successfully and then Windows 8 boots normally. What is happening? Should I be doing something differently? View the full article

New build windows 8 Pc. Windows 8 Pro, clean install, AMD A10-5800 8 gigs corsair ram, gigabyte GA-F2A85X-D3H mobo Installed no problems. Computer will be running and just shut down and restart. No messages. I have upgraded the Graphic drivers, no help. CPU is running cool no issues.. Can determine no pattern, sometime runs for an hour some times 3 minutes. Occasionally will restart 2 or three times in succession. Have installed office 2010. I am at a loss at least if I got an error message I could have somewhere to start. Any thoughts? Thanks Richard Wallace View this thread

I am getting flat out tired of Microsoft not only moving around (hiding) options, but completely removing them. How the HELL do you turn off thumbnail auto-rotation? Sorry for the frustration, I am just tired of these products working against me, not with me. Searching around, it seems others are just as confused on this option. View the full article

I have an HP i7-2600S Desktop Computer. When I turned on my computer today, it appeared to be installing updates. After it booted and I logged in, I noted that the Modern UI start screen looked completely different than I had left it. All of my apps were gone and the background looked different. The only apps on the screen were desktop, store, internet explorer and file explorer. When I went to my desktop it also looked different. The desktop background was different and my desktop shortcuts were gone. When I opened file explorer all of my favorites and mapped drives were gone. When I opened my browser, I was logged out of all of the sites I am normally logged onto. It appears that all of my files are still available. Many of the apps that startup when booting were not running, such as dropbox, Malwarebytes, air video server, etc. I am afraid to set everything up again in case this happens again. I did a scan with Windows Defender and no virus were found. View this thread

Over the last few days, 13 updates have been installed. Next time I booted my computer, it had problems and the Repair process ran. The next day, the same 13 updates installed again, and the next time I booted, the same problems and the same Repair process. So, I turned off automatic updates. But I still don't know which update is screwing up my computer.Any info or hints? View this thread

Everybody has probably come across the metro app crashing issues immediately after execution. I have solved a couple of these issues so far. One issue I solved by adding "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" permissions to a registry key ("HKCLwow6432nodeinterface", group policy applying and excluding read access for this user), one by adding permissions to "C:Program FilesWindowsApps" directory (same user), another by adding permissions to "%localappdata%Packages" (same user again). The most annoying thing about troubleshooting these issues is that I don't understand the detailed behaviours and workings of how these apps work, and I can't find any documentation on it either. I'm working on using WADK and procmon to gain some knowledge at the moment, but want to get the information faster. Is there anybody who can step through the registry keys, executables, directories, network addresses metro apps generally use and require for successful execution and the permissions required to access them for troubleshooting purposes?
