If I purchase the Windows 8 Pro upgrade for $70, am able to wipe out my current Windows 7 and install it clean instead of upgrade from Windows 7 to 8? I've heard/read somewhere that the Windows 8 Po &quotupgrade&quot only works for upgrade and you can't use for a clean install even though you already own Windows 7. If anyone knows the facts, please confirm. My Windows 7 has a lot of junk in it. I do not want to carry those over to Windows 8 with only an &quotupgrade&quot and not clean install. Thank you. Hello, I've just bought UPS. It has an option that if the battery goes down, it shutdowns the computer. I tested it, and instead of shutting down, the computer restarted. So I checked the command &quotshutdown /s&quot in cmd, just to check if there is a problem in the UPS, and the command does a restart too. The computer seems to be shutting down - even the message on the screen is &quotShutting down&quot - but after it finishes, it just restarts the computer instead of turning off the power... Updates for .NET Framework 4 (KB2736428 and KB2742595 show up in windows update. I install them, and the installation completes with no error messages. However, after a few days (or if I check on Windows Update immediately after the installation) they still appear as "Important Updates". I ran "Fix it" and it says it repaied problems in Windows Update, but the updates keep showing up. View this thread

My Windows and Macrium PE image backups fails. Hours &amp hours wasted.I tried Fix-it a few times - not successful - tho I could be wrong about that. I just don't know of a way to find out the reasons why. Microsoft says its a Windows Update error.I did a restore as far as I could go back and re-installed the latest 13 January updates.I was successful with a Windows image backup - I only think so is I put the security setting from one notch from bottom - to the bottom.But I have no idea if I just did a work-around. I next tried to do another image backup with Macriium PE which failed when nearly finished.The thing is I had put the security back up one notch again.I never had any backup up problems before with either backup programs.I would like to have some help to be able to verify the Windows Update error with file: 0x80070002 (3 for last digit - MS takes both into consideration.I will appreciate anyone's help to fix and verify the fix.I am not quite a beginner and do not have an advanced knowledge of computer.HP Pavilion Windows 7 Home Premium 64bitI have been using my internal hdrives for USB backups - using XP hard drives - have been doing this many times previous.I will appreciate anyone's help with this...sincerely101ron View this thread

I have found a problem with Windows 8 automatic updating. I have my PC set to receive updates automatically. I will be working in an app and it will stop responding, or I will be typing on my Bluetooth keyboard and it will stop working. If I look in Charms Settings&gtPower, I will see that there is an update waiting to be installed. If I restart and install the update, the app and or Bluetooth keyboard will work. Original Title: Can't access external HDD after upgrade from xp to win7 I have just upgraded from win xp to win7.I can't access my external hard drive .In "my computer" it shows the device,device managerlists it as a generic usb device.It says it is working properly but in the device details it cannot access any info about its volume.The error message is that is unavailable and it can't access D:. Hi there, I have Windows 7 installed on my Dell laptop. It came with W7 installed, and did not ship with any backup/installation disks. I have since reinstalled Windows 7 using a friends Dell Windows 7 DVD which he had shipped with a Dell PC. All went well and I was able to reinstall, get my drivers etc no problem, but as a result I no longer have my Dell backup partition. However I would now like to reinstall Windows again. I will be getting the DVD off my friend again and using it. However I would like to know some things. Can I create an ISO of this disk and burn it to my own blank DVD? so I won't have to ask him for the DVD if I decide I want to install again. If not, is there anyway I can get a copy of Windows 7 for my own use? I have my Windows 7 license key, and it is a genuine copy, from Dell. Thanks. View the thread

Ok, I am getting ready to do a test deployment of Windows 8 Enterprise for several users in my company. My only real question is how can I make sure that all the non LOB applications are removed. We don't want user using the Calendar app when we use Outlook and so forth. Is there a way to remove these apps permanently so we don't have show up at all.
