Because we want to show the full features and Windows can do to ease the life of everyone. If you please, can we have a free copy of Windows 8 to be installed on our computer and demonstrate the features of Windows 8 to our respondents. I have Gateway LX6810-01 desk top runnning windows Vista Home Premium, 64 bit, 8gb RAM, Service Pack 2 and all latest updates. I connect to the internet through the LAN connection to AT&T Uverse broad band high speed (12gbps). This has been working for over two years now with no problems until now. All of a sudden one day after I rebooted the machine there was no internet connection. When I went to the Network and Sharing Center I get a message that there is no network device installed. SO, I went to the Device Manager window and there was no network device listed but when I opened the "hidden devices" there is was. (Why it is hidden I don't have a clue.) SO, I went to the BIOS and checked to be sure the LAN was "enabled" and it WAS. I still get the same message "no network device installed". SO, then I went to the Gateway web site and downloaded the LAN driver for my machine and my LAN and REinstalled the driver. . . I STILL get the same message and I still have no connetion to the internet. WHAT could be wrong?? Although I consider myself relatively intelligent, I am NOT a computer guru, so please be kind and state your suggestions in "non lingo" so I will understand. Thanks for your help. I have run out of ideas. View this thread

My HP Pavilion dv7 runs Windows 7 and Office Small Business 2007. Since Update KB2687499 was released it has failed to install repeatedly. Other updates since have installed without a problem. I went through the list of Windows Update help options such as disabled Windows Firewall, Disabled my Anti-Virus (Norton Internet Security) and ran several FixIt options that pertained to that error code. Nothing worked. I have also tried to install the KB with the Office 2007 CD installed which didn't change anything. After that I searched this forum and have tried everything I can find in other posts related to this KB or Error message. This includes directly downloading the file (msxml52007-kb2687499-fullfile-x86-glb.exe) but it gets an error message that says, "An Error Occured while Running Detection." I have also tried to run the file as an Administrator, while in a Clean Boot and even in Safe Mode (with networking)- but it always produces the same error. I have ran Office Diagnostics twice- once without and once with the Office 2007 CD installed. It didn't find a problem either time, nor have other system scans for viruses, errors, checkdisk problems, etc. Following the advice from a post on this forum I have used msconfig.exe to perform a clean boot and it still failed to install- both from Windows Update as well as from running the file directly. The last thing I tried was to delete Office and reinstall it. Office failed to delete. When I rebooted all the software was still on the machine (and launched) however Windows Update wanted to reload KB963671, SP3 and 7 other updates. After a reboot Windows Updates came back to KB2687499 which continues to fail. Other things to note: In Control Panel->Programs and Features, when I right click on Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 and select "Change" a window opens that says, "Please wait while setup prepares the necessary files," but within a few seconds the window disappears. After that nothing happens. It does not open setup or allow me to do anything at all. It does this in a clean boot as well. When I install my Office 2007 CD the Setup fails to launch (even in a clean boot). The CD does not appear to be damaged or dirty. I can right click on it and browse the files without a problem. What's my next option... other than to just hide the update? Thanks Sid View this thread

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2779562) failed to install. Error details: Code 80070643 KB2779562 continually tries to update upon Shutdown, but does not. All other updates are installing without difficulty. Unable to resolve installation of KB2779562 using support.microsoft..com I tried to manually install the KB2779562 update by downloading and initializing installation, but this did not work either. How do I remove this KB2779562 update software from my computer or is there another solution to guarantee it to install? View this thread

I need to install Microsoft security update KB2538243. I download the installer, and run it successfully. Although it doesn't show up in the list of installed updates. I will be working from home, and having my computer fully updated is a requirement. The company provides this, "Belarc Advisor" software that checks your computer, and after installing, re-installing and "repairing", and multiple re-starts of my computer, the security update still does not show up in the list of installed updates, and the advisor still says I am missing 1 update. I've also tried checking for updates through windows update, it says my computer is up to date. Im running Windows 7HP, 64 bit. I've tried looking up this issue, but can't seem to find anyone with the same issue as me, I'm not getting any error codes, again, it just says it installs via the installer, but isn't there. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. :)Thanks in AdvanceApril View this thread

I have a working HD that I would like to replace (dropped from some height) with MS 7 Pro 64 Bit OA for Lenovo. Am I correct that I'll need to create a bootable USB, then image the ISO to it from the existing drive, install new HD then begin a clean install using the same product key? Also reinstalling MS Office Basic the same way, downloaded product key? I want to make sure I'm not missing anything here technically or license wise. Thanks. View the thread

Hi, I have a ZyXEL NSA310 NAS device on my network that I use for backups (as well as a media server). I have been very happy with it as, amongst other things, it has a gigabit Ethernet connection. I recently upgraded my home laptop from Win7 Pro to Win8 Pro. Under Win7 the NAS device worked perfectly as the backup target. I could back up file sets and - most importantly to me - create a system image on the device should I need to restore the system in the event of a full disk failure. When I upgraded to Win8 it kept the Win7 settings and it looked like it was just going to work, then as it came to create the system image it failed with error code 0x807800C5 and message "The version does not support this version of the file format". I have searched the internet and seen that others have had similar issues on Win7 and Win8 with NAS devices where they have had to hack the device to get it working - though it isn't clear that this has been successful for everyone. This isn't an option for me as the NSA310 is a closed device and in any event I don't see why I should have to hack the device when clearly this is a Win8 issue (since Win7 worked perfectly). Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue so that I can create the full backups I require?
