The automatic updater does not update. I have a Windows Vista Home Premium i bought in 2009, and it has worked great till about last year when it stopped updating. I dont understand alot of computer language so its kinda hard for me to find what i need to fix this. Or which one? Any suggestions would help, but please can you make it easier for me to understand. My icons are locked in place for some reason. I'm not adverse to this, accept that I didn't knowingly cause it to happen. This last windows update. Kb274595 which has MS Net Framwork 4 , and server 2003 in its title, has crashed 3 of my computers. It locks up and after a couple of hours, if you power shut it down, it comes back with a message "Bootmgr missing". It took me an hour to fix the last computer. Installed win 7 Dec 2012(Sp1) running AthlonII X2 with 2 GB ram on 500 gb HD. Last updates (14) on January 10,2013 appears to have caused an extreme slowdown, it appears the HD is being accessed constantly. Have run, spybot, and malware, otherwise security via MSE.I think a complete re-install is going to be required as backup prior to 011013 were deleted from an external drive and my restore point appears to be only 011013 which includes the updates.Any suggestions on avoiding the format and reinstall?Thank you.! My knowledge of computers are very limited but I have been receiving a security update from Microsoft and I cannot get it to install it reads like this security update for Microsoft.net framework 1.1, SP1 on windows XP(which is what I use) windows vista and windows server 2008X 86 and that it has a number(KB2742597) when I cut my computer off at night it still tries to install this update but does not succeed how do you install something like this are how do you get rid of it Microsoft keeps sending me a request for error reports and I send them back like I should but nothing ever happens any help I could get would be deeply appreciated. I did go to Microsoft support but they wanted quite a bit of money to fix the problem and it made no sense to me that it's Microsoft's update to Microsoft's Windows so I don't know why I should have to pay them to fix their problem. hi there i recently updated to windows 8. it was fine for i few days but now the start menu and some app buttons are missing there icon images and glitching. it is very strange the buttons work but no image or icon can i have some assistance please. I am getting error messages when I try to install sql server 2012 express. it is always on the "resources" screen which mentions "shared features". apparently the folder which I try to install the database engine and other features into is a compressed folder the error msg. always tell me. Siempre he leido los DVDs DL ( 8 Gb), pero hace un año que no puedo leerlos en los 2 Disc Drives que tengo en el PC. Uso Windows 7 y tengo el Nero 10. Da la impresion que es un problema de software que por alguna razón se ha modificado algo en Windows y cuando meto un DVD de 8 Gb no lo reconoce el PC y cuando trato de salir de Windows no termina de apagarse el PC . hi catalyst control center: host application has stopped working error appears when i try to open catalyst control center or the switchable graphics program. this has happend twice and was resolved with a fresh install of windows. i am fairly sure it is caused by a windows update because problem started after installing updates. i have contacted dell and reinstalled the drivers a few times with no fix. my laptop now seems to auto control graphics by itself and can still play some games. graphcs card does still work, just seems to be a software issue . pretty sure the problem is from a windows update windows 8 pro genuine dell inspirion 15r se amd radeon hd 7730m and intel hd graphics 4000 thanks for any feedback View this thread
