My printer Hp Officejet 4500 G510g-n will not print since installing windows8, the paper just goes through without writing on the page. The DVD on this laptop also will not play DVDs anymore. All of this worked before windows8. Thanks in advance for your help. View this thread

Hi there I have a major problem with my new laptop. First things first I am running windows 8 and I set the laptop up in a gmail account and ever time I try to verify the email account I get an error message saying the service is down and it has been saying this since Christmas day. I have 13 updates for Windows 8 that I can't install. You know how frustration can nearly drive you to smash your computer? Me = on the verge. I don't know technical lingo, and I'm nearly at my wits-end here hoping someone might be able to help me. Basically, I've run through the possibility that it might my USB drive that wasn't working, but now I see it's ANY USB that goes into my computer since the "failed Windows 7 updates" - which I have no idea why they won't install. I've re-installed them, restarted the computer, run diagnostic programs as suggested by Microsoft aids, installed each update separately, and neither update will actually work. I've gone over the forums and can't understand what anyone is talking about, so I'm hoping that I'm not posting again, but at the same time, needing lay-man's terms as far as this goes. Installed a new hard drive and new Win 8 Pro. Then installed a photo editing program that had ran fine under XP. It would not run under Win 8, and would not deinstall, so I manually deleted the directory and desktop icon, but I did not delete common file. After rebooting Win 8, I got "rundll32.exe - Entry Point Not Found" error. Original Title - update problem After the last up dates when I start my PC the screen shows something about the BIOS and I have to hit F1 to continue. This never happened starting the PC until the last update. Also since then the calendar keeps jumping back to 2006 when I start the PC. If so, is there an article describing this? edm2 P.S I was looking for an Antivirus solution for Win Server 2012 and ran across this insightful pdf (Win 8) http://www.avira.com/files/support/EN/Avira_W8_2_EN.pdf They show the results of running the Win Upgrade Assistant (several common apps failed) and talk about Microsoft redoing APIs which causes developers headaches. I suspect that despite the very similar looking Win 8 Desktop (similar to Win 7) that there may be some deeper architectural changes that aren't so evident. View the full article

I am running a 2009 Dell XPS ONE 2010 with Vista Home Premium SP2. About two years back, I noticed that Windows Installer had quit working and I could not install Microsoft programs or uninstall most programs, could load 3rd party programs like Turbotax, but could not uninstall them. I purchased Microsoft Expression Web software and had to pay MS $100 to load it. MS uninstalled Office 2007, cleaned up Windows, installed Expression Web, and reinstalled Office 2007. When MS loaded Expression Web, they advised me to use Revo Uninstaller which can be forced to work. because the normal MS Program Uninstaller will not work I cannot install any MS programs such as the Windows 7 upgrade advisor or other MS software. When MS installed Expression Web, they said they could not fix the installer failure without a custom reinstall of Vista which I chose not to do. Strangely, MS Windows Updates work just fine. Over the last three months, I have read and tried all the MS suggestions to fix this problem without success. The installer failure message is "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed........." Now I want to install new web site creation software but it will not install. I purchased the Windows 7 Upgrade Home Premium package but it fails with the message my computer in not compatible with Windows 7. I suspect the upgrade fails because the Installer Service fails. I don't want to do a Custom install of Windows 7 due to the work required to reinstall all my software. I have an app dll that refuses to register in Windows8. It worked fine in Windows7. Some users report it works OK on there system but most report the same error When we run regsvr32 to register the dll, it generates an error that says it was loaded ok but the call to DLLRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005. Research on this error says it corrected by running with elevated rights. We run the process as an Admin. We have tried opening CMD prompt as an Admin, turned off Windows Defender, disabled Windows Firewall and also tried doing it in Safe Mode. Every attempt always returns the same error code. I have tried multiple searches but all say just to run in an elevated mode. We do but it still fails. All searches indicate the error is an indicator of a security issue. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this and how to correct it - Can you help me find the forum that would be appropriate for this info. The app ran fine in Win7, and survived an in-place upgrade to Win8. It seems to appear with new OS installs or when the registry is cleaned of any reference to the app and then an install is attempted.
