I just purchased a new computer about a month ago. Everything is working fine hardware-wise. Within the past day I have been unable to use file explorer. I click on any folder on my desktop and in the taskbar it shows that the correct folder is open, but there is no display. I had the same problem with Google Chrome, but after a computer restart Chrome is working. I can click on any folder and none will display. When I hover over it, the small view of the folder is there. Can I receive some help with this problem. Thanks Itouchmaniac View the full article

I found an old post from 2009 here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-desktop/my-display-icon-is-missing-from-my-control/c3a4d7c1-0149-4c41-bcbc-75ba11c6d99d I tried both of the suggestions described there, but neither one restored the Display Icon. I'm wondering if anyone has ny other suggestions on what to try. View this thread

We have recently installed a Windows 8 Pro edition OS on one of our 64bits laptops, and the installation works great. Installation of programs have worked fine (such as Office and Opera webreader), but when installing latest versions of java (Version 7 Update 10), both 32 & 64, the installation stops and shows an error. We downloaded Java from the official site and the Windows 8 is activated with our valid key recieved via e-mail. Below roughly translated errormessage from google translate: "Can not open thisinstallation package. Verify that the package exists and that youhave access to the one, or contact the applicationvendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."- I run the installation as administrator. Does anyone know what this could be caused by? I have searched the web for two days without finding this out. Offcourse we open internet explorer from desktop mode and download it directly to desktop mode where we also try to install it from. Please reply here and/or send an e-mail to morten.austad@c2i.net if you would be so kind! This since I am helping someone else with this issue and will not be checking this thread on a daily basis. In advance, THANK YOU! View the full article

Hello everyone, I recently installed Windows 8. I have some issue, but I'm not sure if it's a feature or a bug. When I minimize a tile, the sound from it is decreased immensely. For example, if I open IE10 from the app tile, and open a YouTube video and play it, when I switch the screen to something else, such as Desktop, the sound is decreased dramatically. The same happens even when I open Xbox music and switch out. Is there some way around this? Thanks What is a signature? View the full article

I thought this might just be one PC, but am finding this problem on home, work and even my Surface RT. Sometimes when viewing web pages (or graphics in metro apps that use IE to display content like a newsreader) a graphic will be replaced or mangled with a what looks like green video noise, and sometimes part of the previously viewed graphic is part of it. It's hard to describe without seeing it, but it shows up on pages with lots of graphics boxes like news blogs (sites like a Buzzfeed or Google News). This is what happens: Its very very common, and I thought it might be video drivers (mostly use AMD), but when it happened on my Surface I found this to be more common than I thought. Is anyone else seeing this or have a fix? Curt Kessler - FLC View the full article

While doing searches ie google... yahoo or any other search engine , I find an untold amount of old useless, information that is not needed, outdated, and completely useless. For example lists of addresses for stores that no longer exist. It would seem to me that all this needless information is taking up much space that could be detrimental to the World Wide Web .... Anyone know about this stuff? jim View this thread

My system has a third party raid controller on which I have installed Windows 8. Everything works except recovery mode. When I run recovery mode I don't have any of the normal options I am used to seeing in safe mode. I have to load into System Image Recovery, add my RAID driver, and go back to the main recovery mode screen before it will detect my installation. It seems to be too late by then for any safe mode options to be displayed. In Linux I am accustomed to adding any needed third party drivers to the 'boot image' if I need them loaded before the kernel. Would adding the drivers to the Windows 8 install image also add them to the Windows boot image after install? Can the boot image be mounted and drivers added to it with dism? If not, how do I get the safe mode options? View the full article

Hello, I just installed windows 8 pro on my working computer. I work a lot with virtual machines for special os setups. Recently I used Virtualbox for those machines. But with windows 8 pro VBox says there is not VT-X available ... (mainboard and processor support vt-x and it is enabled) Well it was available before I switched to windows 8 pro. I search the net and found a hint that hyper-v might be the cause. I had hyper-v installed because I am planning to migrate to hyper-v from vbox. I uninstalled hyper-v and vt-x was available again. Question now is why does hyper-v does disable vt-x for other hypervisors or even better how can i prevent this ? View the full article

Windows 7 Home Premium will not install Service Pack 1. I receive the following error messages [80246007 or 800B0100] Purchased Windows 8 on Dec 2, 2012. Windows 8 will not install on my Acer Aspire 5253 laptop. It keeps saying that I need to remove all Symantec products which I did reluctantly. The upgrade still would not work. View this thread

I installed Windows 8 on a Acer Extensa 5620Z, which ran perfectly well with Windows Vista. My first installation with Win 8 ran fine, but then Win 8 started to update itself and now it keeps stalling the computer, leaving vertical black stripes in the screen. The computer does not run for 10 minutes without stalling. Youtube videos will stall it instantly. When I remove the update, it starts working again. Memory and harddrive are obviously fine. What am I to do? View the full article

All of a sudden Windows 8 has started crashing on me after running flawlessly since its installation in October. I have been having update problems that everyone seems to be talking about here. My 3 months old Lenovo (H330) Desktop which I upgraded to W8 a couple of month ago is sometimes spending hours to configure updates and then reverts back to the old configuration. Looking at the updates that the update manager's list of uninstalled updates,I believe the problem ones are the usual suspects that were mentioned here before: KB2753842, KB2756872, KB2770917, KB2779768. And before anyone mentions it as a possible source of problems, I have no anti-virus programs installed and I have tried the automatic repair program which gave me the good news but did not deliver. What makes my situation worse than usual is the file explorer crashes that started after this problem with the updates started. That program opens up fine and it is good for clicking on the files that show up. The problem is whenever I try to click on the Computer icon on the left, the file explorer crashes every other program is back on after 1-2 seconds but the file explorer is gone. Now I do not want to reset my computer, as it is likely that I will run into the same problem anyway and I do not want to go back to W7. I would appreciate if anyone knows a way to fix the updates but I can live without some updates (I guess). However I would really very much like to have a fully functional file explorer. Does anyone know a way to fix a component of the W8 without having to go through a full reset or installation? View this thread
